Musician Kate Nash today launched a nationwide interactive music educational tour with The Co-operative and the British Music Experience to inspire young people across the UK to engage with music.
The tour, in the form of a traditional 1968 Routemaster London bus, has been transformed to replicate the music museum which is at the O2 in London and will take to the road over the coming months, visiting schools up and down the country. Kate Nash joined local school children today at Trafalgar Square to officially launch the education roadshow on the second anniversary of the British Music Experience.
Inside the ‘moving museum’, young people will be able to interact with state of the art music technology, provided by Sennheiser and Gibson. They will also be able to record a track in a fully equipped studio which can be uploaded online to share with family and friends. As part of the tour, school children will also participate in a behind the scenes ‘Master Class’ led by the British Music Experience education team, offering insight into working in the music industry, demonstrating the different roles and skills needed to succeed.
The bus captures British music of the past 60 years, featuring original pieces of music memorabilia including a genuine cell used to make The Beatles animated film ‘Yellow Submarine’, Leona Lewis’ Roberto Cavalli dress worn during a performance in 2008 for Nelson Mandela and Florence and the Machine’s 22 carat gold-plated microphone used by Florence during her 2010 tour.
Speaking from the launch, Kate said, ‘t’s such an honour to be involved in this project as inspiring young people to get into the music industry is something that is really close to my heart.
‘ think that in the UK we often dismiss the music industry as an unrealistic career path and discourage young people from getting involved, but we need to challenge these attitudes and nurture the talent that is evident in so many teenagers and young adults across the country.’
‘The British Music Experience is the definitive home of the story of British popular music and how it influences our lives and culture. We’re delighted that the museum is going on the road and helping to inspire people – especially young people – to explore music and all its benefits. We’re looking forward to working with The Co-operative on this partnership and on many more initiatives to inspire and educate young people through music,’ said Harvey Goldsmith, Chairman of The British Music Experience.

MTV Cancels Reality Show “The City”. It looks like Whitney Port is out of a job. The former “The Hills” reality star who made waves with her spin-off in “The City,” has been canceled by MTV. A spokesperson for the Music channel says: “’The City’ will not be returning to MTV for season three.” “Whitney has been a part of our family for many years and we wish her and the cast the best, and hope to collaborate with them again.” The announcement doesn’t come as a surprise for Port, as she herself hinted that the show would end during an interview with Ryan Seacrest on his radio show. “As of right now it doesn’t really look like we’re doing it anymore,” she said. “The City” followed Port as she moved from the west coast to New York City in pursuit of a fashion career while in the big city. This doesn’t look like it’s the end of Port’s career in the fashion world, though. She told Seacrest, “It’s OK – one door closes and another opens,” adding that she has several new projects lined up for the future as well
Manolo Blahnik Shows Off Sketching Skills On “The Martha Stewart” Show. Manolo Blahnik, shoe designer of “Sex and the City” fame, was mentioned – and appeared – on another TV show. The founder of his self-named, high-end shoe brand was a guest on “The Martha Stewart Show” last Friday. Blahnik reportedly hates the term “muse,” but it seemed as though host Martha Stewart was his on the show. He demonstrated his design process of sketching a one-of-a-kind shoe in front of a live studio audience on canvas with paint. After the spontaneous sketch, Stewart asked him what the inspiration was behind the sketch of a brown high heel. “You. And the show and food,” he said. Blahnik’s food inspiration came in the form of the milkshakes Stewart and he made, reportedly an obsession of Blahnik’s, when he and Martha created two different shakes, Coconut-Chocolate and Salted Caramel Pecan. The shoe designer also talked about growing up and how he got his start in the shoe business. He started sketching shoes when he was about six or seven years old, he told Stewart, and his mother also made her own shoes. “During the war, my mommy didn’t get the things that she liked so she made herself (espadrilles),” Blahnik said.”So she was very, very sort of crafty in that way.” He also told Stewart the engineering behind making his shoes. “(Engineering) takes a long time. Shoes are different than dresses in a sense that shoes takes a lot of months to do technically. To get the heel correct.” “I can imagine,” Stewart responded. “Just figuring out how the heel can bear the weight of a 130-pound woman, right? It’s amazing.”

Lady Gaga wants to buy a British castle. The eccentric singer is believed to have fallen in love with the country ‘ having previously professed a love for traditional UK dish fish and chips and British musicians – and is keen to follow in Madonna’s footsteps by purchasing an estate in the UK countryside. A friend told the Daily Record newspaper: ‘No expense will be spared in her quest to make this dream come true. ‘t’s her childhood dream and she’s particularly interested in castles in the north of England or Scotland.’ It was reported this week the ‘Alejandro’ hitmaker was looking to purchase a property on the exclusive island of Martha’s Vineyard, off the coast of Massachusetts, US, ready for when her ‘Monster Ball Tour’ – which has been running since 2009 – wraps up in 2011. However, the New Yorker could bag herself a bargain if she were to buy in Scotland, where real estate agent Matthew Sinclair has revealed many properties are overpriced. He said: ‘The average time a property is on the market is eight months. That tells us much of the property is overpriced. ‘The country house market seems completely static. Some prices being asked are what they would have sold for at the peak of the market.’
