Dolly Parton says she has “no regrets” about not having children

Country singer Dolly Parton says she doesn’t “have any regrets” about not having children.

In a recent interview with The Sun newspaper, the 65-year-old country singer said she would have liked to have had a family but is content with what she has achieved in her career.

“I wanted to make music in my career because I wanted to travel and have clothes and things for my people,” she said. “You give a lot to make it and I did but I don’t have any regrets.

“I would have liked to have had children but it wasn’t meant to be.”

While Parton made a name for herself with hit songs as “Coat of Many Colors,” “Jolene,” and “I Will Always Love You,” she made her film debut in the 1980 comedy hit “9 to 5.”

Parton, who has been married to Carl Dean since 1966, said the sacrifices she has made in her personal life have been worthwhile.

“People always ask me if it’s worth what I’ve sacrificed and it absolutely is. I’ve gone through a lot.

Parton also said she learned how to do business with me, because she grew up with six brothers.

“I was always strong with them around. I could hold my own and I understood men, I was never afraid of them,” she told the newspaper. “I never had to sell myself or sleep with anyone I didn’t want to just to get my music across.”

The ‘Judas’ hitmaker – who sings some of her new album ‘Born This Way’ in Spanish and German – is set to have American Sign Language lessons with a private tutor after seeing YouTube videos of her deaf fans signing along to her tracks.

A source told The Sun newspaper: ‘Gaga’s already campaigned for gay rights in the States and has spoken out about political issues like immigration.

The 25-year-old singer has previously played shows with a sign language expert interpreting lyrics for her deaf fans, and last year at a Washington concert she announced her admiration for the language.

She said: “I wish I spoke your language. That’s really f***ing beautiful. Everybody speaks the language of love and it’s so beautiful that music brings everyone together.”

Aside from dating ‘Twilight Saga” co-star Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson says he spends most of his spare time on his own because he has nobody to hang out with.

In an interview with The Sun newspaper, the 24-year-old British actor revealed that he often has to call people and beg them to let him go out with them because he hardly ever gets invited anywhere due to his hectic career.

“I was thinking the other day that no one ever rings me up or anything,” he said. “No one ever asks me to do anything. When I’m not working, I’m one of those people who calls up their entire phone book to say, ‘Hey, what are you doing? Are you doing anything tonight? Can I go with you?’”

The actor, who met with fans Tuesday night at the London premiere of “Water for Elephants” with actress Reese Witherspoon and Academy Award-winner Christoph Waltz, also admitted he dreams of entering politics in the future.

“It sounds so ridiculous for me to say I’m curious about politics and might be a politician one day. I’d love to but I wouldn’t want to be held accountable.”

The 52-year-old superstar has teamed up with Lourdes, 14, on the song ‘It’s So Cool’ and it is set to either feature on her next album or on the soundtrack LP to her directorial debut movie ‘W.E.’. Madonna hopes the collaboration will be the springboard which launches Lourdes on the path to pop success.

A source told The Sun newspaper: ‘Madonna hopes Lourdes will step into her shoes and become one of the biggest female artists in the world. She is the perfect mentor for her daughter and is keen to assist her first steps into the music industry.’

And it seems the teenager shares her famous mother’s talent for singing and has also inherited her outgoing personality.

The source added: ‘Lourdes has a great voice and plenty of character like her mother.’

Madonna and Lourdes first record the song acoustically together eight years ago in 2003, and it was then reworked as a pop track and released via iTunes as a bonus track for the ‘Hung Up’ singer’s 2009 greatest hits LP ‘Celebration’.

However, Lourdes’ parts were removed from that version.

The track is not the first collaboration between mother and daughter.

Last year, the pair teamed up to launch teen clothing range Material Girl, which consists of clothes, footwear, handbags, jewellery and various accessories.

Paul McCartney’s son has covered one of his father’s tracks with The Cure. James McCartney plays on a new tribute album which sees artists including Billy Joel and BB King record songs from Paul’s post-Beatles solo career and with his band Wings.

Paul reportedly helped arrange for James ‘ who has previously played guitar and drums on some of his solo albums ‘ to record with the ‘Friday I’m In Love’ rockers for the record.

A source told The Sun newspaper: “James was over the moon at playing with The Cure. He’s always been a big fan. They all went into a studio in Sussex and hung out together.”

Paul, 68, is said to be pleased The Cure appear on the album, as he has a good relationship with the band’s frontman, Robert Smith.

The insider added: “Over the years, Robert Smith and Paul’s paths have crossed countless times and he is chuffed having The Cure pay tribute to him.”

Other artists who have recorded versions of the ‘Band On The Run’ singer’s work include country singer Garth Brooks, Paul Rodgers and rockers KISS, who take on Wings’ 1975 track ‘Venus And Mars/Rock Show’.

About their contribution, the band wrote on their facebook page: ‘We consider it an honour to be asked to participate on a tribute to one of the most influential and greatest singer/songwriters of all time.

‘Not to mention, a major force in the most important band of all time, The Beatles. Wow!’

The ‘Fools Gold’ group are in talks after frontman Ian Brown and guitarist John Squire settled their differences.

The pair had been locked in a bitter war of words since John walked out of the band in 1996, but relations thawed after they met at a funeral held for the mother of the band’s bass player, Mani, in March.

A source told The Sun newspaper: “Ian has been mulling over reaching out to John for a while now. A lot of water has gone under the bridge and everyone has grown up. Ian has just gone through a tough time with a divorce and then Mani’s mum’s funeral brought everyone back under the same roof.

“It was an emotional reunion. There were no harsh words. It was a heartwarming breaking of bread.

“They had a lot to catch up on and have been in regular contact since.”

The group had notoriously bad luck during their career, after a legal wrangle with their record label following the release of their defining debut album meant they hardly earned any money from it and were forbidden from releasing any music on another label for two years.

Despite their animosity after John quit the group, the guitarist ‘ now an artist – had reached out to Ian, even writing a song for his 2009 album ‘My Way’, although it was ultimately rejected.

Ian explained: ‘John actually sent me a tune 18 months ago – pretty good, sounded nice, I liked it – but my sons turned round and said, ‘dad you can’t work on that – he sold you out didn’t he? He left you for dead’.’

The group are now said to be trying to track down the fourth original member of the band, drummer Reni.

She wrote: “I am not Mark Chapman. It is not only you who will die. I will shoot a bullet through my head too.” Under the terms of the restraining order, Obukhova is banned from going within 500 metres of Lady Gaga but the eccentric singer – we all know her real name  by now,  ’ has stepped up her security in the wake of the alleged death threat.
