“Despicable Me” Rules Weekend Box Office.  ”Despicable Me” has upset the weeks-long reign of “Eclipse” at the top. The Steve Carell-led animated film debuted at 1st place at the weekend box office with $60.1 million, edging the vampire romance flick to 2nd place. Although “Eclipse” is down almost 50 percent ticket sales from last week, it was able to surpass predecessor “New Moon” in domestic sales, with $237 million compared to the latter’s $235 million.Another newcomer is the rebooted sci-fi flick “Predators,” with amassed $25.3 million.  Meanwhile, the critically panned “The Last Airbender” slid down to 5th with $17.2 million.

Adam Sandler’s comedy debuted at second place with $41 million, leaving “Toy Story 3″ the undisputed winner of the three-day weekend box office with $59 million. Although the Disney-Pixar feature film was 46.5 percent down, it still managed to guard the top spot from newcomers “Grown Ups” and “Knight & Day.” “Grown Ups” – starring an all-star cast: Sandler, Kevin James, Chris Rock, David Spade, Rob Schneider, Salma Hayek, Maria Bello, and Maya Rudolph – took second place, while the Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz-starrer was at third with $20.5 million. The “Karate Kid” and “The A-Team” round up the top 5.

Buzz and Woody are still the kings of the toy box. “Toy Story 3″ has opened at first place with a whopping $109 million gross, while another newcomer “Jonah Hex” had a dismal opening with $5 million. The Disney-Pixar film, the third in the successful franchise, debuted during the three-day weekend at the top spot, beating last week’s number one “The Karate Kid,” which was bumped to second place  While the 3D animated film is celebrating its box office win, it’s bad news for Josh Brolin and Megan Fox, whose “Jonah Hex” finished at eighth place with just $5 million.
