And the Top New Artist category features a diverse collection of fresh talent, with Bad Meets Evil, Big Sean, Foster The People, Scotty McCreery and Wiz Khalifa serving as the 2012 finalists.

The American Music Awards is not as prestigious as the Grammy Awards, and it lacks the edginess of the MTV Video Music Awards, but it is a big awards show nonetheless.
This year’s ceremony was broadcast from Los Angeles on Sunday night. Performers included an out-of-breath Jennifer Lopez, a matured Justin Bieber and an over-the-top Nicki Minaj.
Taylor Swift was the night’s big winner. On the heels of her recent win for the coveted Country Music Award for Entertainer of the Year, Swift won for Country Female Artist; Country Album (Speak Easy), and Artist of the Year
Other winner included British artist Adele, who is recovering from vocal cord surgery. Nominated for four awards, the singer/songer went home with three: Adult Contemporary Artist, Pop/Rock Female Artist and Pop/Rock album for “21.” The Foo Fighters won for Alternative Rock Artist; Blake Shelton won Country Male Artist; Lady Antebellum won for Country Band, Duo or Group; and Jennifer Lopez received the award for Latin Music Artist.
Bruno Mars won for Pop/Rock male Artist. Maroon 5 took home the award for Pop/Rock Band, Duo or Group. And Nicki Minaj won both Rap/Hip-Hop artist and Rap/Hip-Hop album for “Pink Friday.”
Beyonce was named Soul/R&B Female Artist and Usher took the male category. Rihanna won the Soul/R&B Album for “Loud,” and Hot Chelle Rae was named New Artist of the Year.
Taylor Swift is reportedly dating an older man.
The 21-year-old country singer is spending time with Jason Mraz who is 13 years her senior, according to Life & Style.
Jason joined Taylor onstage for a duet of his song I’m Yours during the Los Angeles leg of her Speak Now tour.
‘He asked her out on a date and she said yes,’ an insider told the magazine. ‘Jason and Taylor have been talking and he’s taking her out on a real date.’
Taylor seems to have a liking for older men after dating a few in the past.
She reportedly had a short-lived relationship with Jake Gyllenhaal, 30, but he is said to have ended it because things were going too fast.
Taylor also dated bad boy John Mayer, 33, but their romance also did not last long.
‘Taylor was head over heels for John [Mayer],’ an insider revealed when the couple dated. ‘She thought he was in love with her but he just wanted to have fun.’
Taylor Swift hopes the lighting guy ‘doesn’t mess up’ on tour now she’s publicly praised him.
The American country pop singer is currently on the road with her Speak Now tour, and says the crew all work hard for long periods of time.
Taylor revealed that after the end of every worldwide series of shows she treats herself and all the crew to a big vacation, even if someone has done a ‘bad’ job.
‘Yeah actually, we usually take everybody on vacation. Like everybody. Every single person on the tour. That means band, dancers, crew. We usually pick somewhere beautiful and tropical, but we haven’t started planning it yet, because the tour is only half way done. It’s really wonderful to take everyone on a trip,’ she told the Kyle and Jackie O radio show.
‘No, we don’t do that,’ she laughed when asked if she excludes anyone for doing a bad job on tour. ‘Everyone’s really good on this tour. Now watch me say that and have the lighting guy mess up tonight.’
Taylor writes a different music lyric on her arm for every show. The 21-year-old star explained the words depend entirely on her mood that day.
‘t’s kind of like a mood ring. It’s what I’m listening to at the moment, or what I’m feeling at the moment, or whatever lyric I’m relating to at the moment. They’re all kind of based on my mood that day. And also, they have to be a lyric that I think is smart,’ she revealed.
‘Oh it’s never one of mine. It’s always somebody else’s. It’s an artist I’m a fan of. There’s been like 30, 40 so far, it’s anybody from U2 to Dixie Chicks. It’s like anybody. I have [written Eminem lyrics on my arm].’
The 21-year-old singer bought the four-bedroom property in native Tennessee for $1.4 million last September and has now put it back on the market for $50,000 more than she paid.
The house – which also comes with five bathrooms – is on a sprawling estate and features several gardens, a water fountain and an outdoor fireplace.
Inside, the property – which was built in 1929 – boasts original hardwood floors, custom woodwork and several magnificently ornate hand-crafted plaster ceilings, while the huge kitchen looks out of the pasture at the back of the house.
The country star also owns her parents’ three-bedroom home in the same area, has a huge penthouse in central Nashville as well as a stunning $3.35 million home in Beverly Hills.
Sources say Taylor splashed out on the Los Angeles property to save on accommodation costs whenever she visits the city.
One said: “Taylor just bought a beautiful home for herself in LA. She is in L.A. so much – and she was paying a fortune in hotel charges!”
Fans of Taylor Swift are in for a treat with the star’s upcoming release of her fragrance. The pop star has teamed up with Elizabeth Arden to create her signature scent.
The fragrance’s name, Wonderstruck, comes from one of Swift’s own songs, “Enchanted.” Of the fragrance, Swift says it “represents that magical feeling of promise and hope and intrigue.”
Wonderstruck is a combination of several elements, including freesia, green tea, apple blossom, raspberry, dewberry, and Hawaiian White Hibiscus. Vanilla and honeysuckle are also part of the scent.
Swift’s fragrance will launch in October in the U.S., Puerto Rico, Australia and New Zealand. In the fall of 2012, Wonderstruck will be available overseas.
Wonderstruck’s price will range from $18 to $59.50, depending on the size of the bottle.
The musician has confessed he was blown away when the singer wrote the track ‘Enchanted’ – which was included on her 2010 LP ‘Speak Now’ – about him, and has revealed the pair shared a romantic email exchange for a few months last year.
Although they never ended up dating, Adam – who recorded a cover of the track which he posted on his website on Valentine’s Day (14.02.11) – admits he has strong feelings for Taylor.
He said: “She’s a great person, and I am so inspired by her music and the person herself. She is who her music makes her out to be. She’s a superstar and I’m just this kid from a small town in the middle of nowhere, so I feel like that peasant in the midst of a princess and that whole classic story. But who knows? There’s no telling.”
The ‘Fireflies’ hitmaker admits the first time he met Taylor backstage after one of his concerts in New York he was “wonder-struck” by her.
He recalled: “I met her in New York and she came to one of my shows and after the show I was backstage in the green room and she was on her way up to meet me and that was the most nerve-wracking few minutes of my life just waiting to meet Taylor Swift. When I met her she was glowing and I was too. It’s hard to put into words, but I was definitely wonder-struck to meet her.”
Adam, 24, isn’t sure why he and 21-year-old Taylor – who dated actor Jake Gyllenhaal in the last three months of 2010 – never ended up going on an actual date, but he still thinks Taylor is “wonderful”.
When asked why their relationship never got beyond emails, he told Us Weekly magazine: “I don’t know. I think that I’m not the most romantic and eloquent guy in the world. She’s just this endearing, wonderful girl and maybe I said something wrong, who knows? It went on for three or four months, something like that.”
Forbes released their annual “Best Paid Celebrities Under 30” list and, if there’s still time, you might want to pick up a microphone or a tennis racket. Lady Gaga tops the list, which is entirely made up of singers and sports pros.
Gaga earned an estimated $90 million last year, thanks to her sold-out “Monster Ball” tour. 17-year-old Justin Bieber follows in 2nd, having earned $53 million thanks to his tour, album sales, and even big-screen venture “Never Say Never.”

Though Taylor Swift is busy on her own sold-out tour, the 21-year-old country star just can’t say no to a good cause. She’s hitting the stage with the Black Eyed Peas in New York’s Central Park on Thursday night.
Swift will join the Peas for their Concert 4 NYC benefitting the Robin Hood Foundation, which helps battle poverty in New York City. The show is expected to have over 60,000 fans in attendance.
“We are thrilled to have Taylor on board to benefit two very important causes,” Fergie said in a statement. “Not only will she will be an amazing addition to our lineup, she is an incredible inspiration to people of all ages and her music gives a voice to those who feel left behind.”
Other performers set to appear include Debbie Harry, LL Cool J and Natasha Bedingfield, while Whoopi Goldberg and Zach Braff are among the stars also scheduled to make appearances.
The concert is free but tickets are required and are sold out.
Taylor Swift says being famous is just like being at school, apart from every excruciating moment happens at an awards show.
The country music star has been discussing the promo for her track The Story of Us, which follows a couple during their relationship. There is an embarrassing moment where Taylor sees her ex-boyfriend for the first time since their split, which was inspired by real events.
The 21-year-old knows people think being a celebrity would be fantastic and glamorous, but she insists it actually means anything awkward which happens is on a much bigger scale.
‘Anytime I’m onstage or watching the music video, the first thing that comes into my mind is the person I wrote the song about. It’s like the first thing that you think of is the moment that inspired the song, which is that excruciating, awful moment when you run into an ex for the first time,’ she told MTV News.
‘[Being a star is] just like in high school, except [the awkward moments happen] at an awards show. You go on living a normal life, except on a different scale.’
The Story of Us is also close to Taylor’s heart for another reason. She shot the promo at Vanderbilt University in Nashville while tornados were battering the area. It made filming highly unusual as the whole cast and crew had to protect themselves from the difficult weather conditions.
‘We had to hide. All of us, we had to hide in a room where there were no windows, so that was a little bit crazy. [But] other than that, it was incredibly fun,’ she explained.
The promo features all the people who play in Taylor’s band, as well as her backing singer Liz Huett. Liz began working for Taylor after introducing herself at a meet-and-greet event, where she wowed the star with her voice.
