T In The Park

Big Country, Jon Fratelli, Roddy Woomble and Twin Atlantic join T in the Park bill

Jon Fratelli,

Jon Fratelli,

The T in the Park bill is being tipped as the bill to beat this summer and festival organisers DF Concerts and founding partner Tennent’s Lager are pleased to announce a proud army of Scottish acts in the form of Big Country, Jon Fratelli, Roddy Woomble, Twin Atlantic, Emma’s Imagination, The Phantom Band, Found and Jack Townes – set to descend upon Balado on the weekend of 8th ‘ 10th July 2011.

Making their T in the Park debut on the 30th anniversary of the band are Scottish rock giants Big Country. The band has enjoyed phenomenal success with number one albums, Grammy nominations, sold out European tours and millions of record sales worldwide. They’ve shared stages with Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan and are one of the truly great live outfits to have survived the roller coaster ride of the Eighties. Their star continued to shine until 2001 when frontman Stuart Adamson sadly passed away. It took until 2010 before the band felt ready to perform again as Big Country with Jamie Watson and singer Mike Peters leading the band back to glory to perform at T in the Park 2011.

The band said: “To be able to play at T in the park is a perfect opportunity for us to really celebrate our 30th anniversary in Scotland. Because the band was basically born in Fife, T is a fitting place to return to for this occasion. Stuart would have appreciated this, and we’re all looking forward to it.”

Jon Fratelli will appear solo on stage in Balado for the first time with brand new songs from his debut album ‘Psycho Jukebox’. Chock full of the kind of solid gold easy action that makes you want to smile broadly, chant loudly, dance wildly, sing sweetly, grapple sweatily, drum manically, scream breathlessly and shout raucously, it’s perfect T in the Park material.

Jon said: “T in the Park was the first major festival I ever played and the first time I’d played in front of a circus tent full of people, that first time is still etched in my memory. I’m really happy to be going back to T, it’s always a highlight’.

Roddy Woomble, frontman of legendary Scottish alt-rock act Idlewild will woo the T in the Park crowd with dreamy lyrics and fully charged folk foot stompers from his latest solo album ‘The Impossible Song & Other Songs’. He paints a picture of his beloved western isles with layers of tuneful instruments that complement a voice full of soul. Known to treat fans to a travelling story or two between songs and with the chance of some Idlewild classics thrown into the mix, Woomble’s performance is set to shine.

Glaswegian boys Twin Atlantic are poised for greatness – the group of fans who once held them as their little secret is growing rapidly and this number is set to multiply when they appear at T in the Park this year. Word of mouth buzz about their intense live shows has built a rock solid base and the band has scored a sellout gig in Glasgow’s Barrowland this Friday 6th May. Ambitious debut mini-album, ‘Vivarium’, is packed with enormous sweeping riffs, moods that flit from light to shade, and impassioned vocals dripping with gorgeous Scottish vowels.

Emma Gillespie AKA Emma’s Imagination has rarely done things the conventional way ‘ she’s had two singles in the top ten at once, then shortly after, she signed her first recording contract. This summer she’ll make her debut at T in the Park to play to thousands of fans who voted her the winner of Sky One’s talent show ‘Must Be the Music’.

Elusive Glasgow outfit The Phantom Band released their debut album ‘Checkmate Savage’ in 2009 and recently released current album ‘The Wants’. Fans can expect to hear a myriad of different genres and hits from both during their much anticipated slot at Balado.

Also appearing at T in the Park this summer is Edinburgh based band Found. Recently signed to the Scottish musical institution that is Chemikal Underground, the group began life as an experimental arts collective putting on many weird and wonderful events in art galleries, warehouses and even storage containers. Their unusual mix of garage rock, melodic pop and glitchy electronica has propelled them to the forefront of Scotland’s alternative music scene.

Teenage rock gods in the making Jack Townes were snapped up by record label giants Columbia on the merit of just one song and already have a tour with The View under their belt – good going for a band who have been together less than a year. The teenagers will join a roll call of legends and idols when they appear in Balado this summer.

Big Country, Jon Fratelli, Roddy Woomble, Twin Atlantic, Emma’s Imagination, The Phantom Band, Found and Jack Townes will join fellow countrymen Primal Scream, The View, KT Tunstall, Calvin Harris, Slam and Silicone Soul as well as Arctic Monkeys, Coldplay and Foo Fighters and a whole host of mega star talent on a knock out bill and the good news is – there’s more to come.

At the heart of T in the Park is the music and atmosphere that continually unites the crowd and creates a weekend of memorable moments that will last a lifetime. Brit Award and Grammy winners, multi-million selling artists, the best breakthrough talent, new music icons and legends..T in the Park 2011 has them all. Bring it on Balado.

David Guetta has announced a headline UK Tour.

David Guetta has announced a headline UK Tour.

David Guetta has announced a headline UK Tour.

Internationally respected artist/producer/DJ, David Guetta has announced a headline UK Tour throughout April and May 2011 culminating with two nights at London’s O2 Academy Brixton. David Guetta’s track record has been impeccable for nearly two decades and he is now simply, a phenomenon. David Guetta’s name is synonymous with the world’s greatest dance music and with parties that bring that music to life. He is possibly the most entertaining electronic artist ever; certainly currently. David Guetta has sold over 4 million albums worldwide and more than 1O million singles. If you include his productions (such as I Gotta Feeling for the Black Eyed Peas, its well over 20 million). In 2010, his career reached new peaks: with 3 number one singles in the UK including ‘When Love Takes Over’ featuring the vocals of multi-platinum pop-R&B songstress Kelly Rowland, ‘Sexy Bitch’ featuring Akon and ‘Getting Over You’ featuring Fergie, LMFAO and long time collaborator Chris Willis, his fourth studio album ‘ONE LOVE’ is nothing less than a bold, beautiful manifesto for the global dance audience and has taken the sound above ground world-wide. With a global following of nearly five million celebrants at over 200 DJ performances just last year attesting to his musical authority, it’s no wonder that Guetta has emerged as a catalyst and a curator of an exciting new musical hybrid, his magical producer’s touch bringing out the best in all his collaborators. He is one of the most connected artists on the planet with almost 11 million FB fans and 400 million views on Youtube. But nothing beats the live show. Despite his pop success, David is a DJ first and he has elevated the art to unprecedented levels. He holds the crowd in his palms with their hands high in the air, whipping them into a frenzy with a twisted mix of his hits and street electro beats. With pyro, an incredible light show and gigantic robots, this is a party like no other. After storming the festival season with appearances including T in the Park, and V Festival plus his sold out F*** Me I’m Famous Ibiza Pacha residency these headline dates are not to be missed. Kings of Leon brawl at T In The Park

kings-of-leon-rtvKINGS OF LEON had a screaming row among themselves after their T In The Park performance this weekend.  The US rockers got so angry with each other after their set at the Scottish festival on Friday night that they threatened to cancel their appearance at Dublin’s Oxegen festival the next night.  The row was sparked by some sound difficulties during their set which put frontman Caleb Followill in a foul mood which he then took out on his bandmates.  The band’s manager had to drag him away from bandmates — brothers Nathan and Jared and cousin Matthew before things got physical.  Before he was led away, he trashed his beloved Gibson 325 axe which smashed into smitheens on stage before he threw the broken frame into the crowd.  But he regretted his decision to destroy the guitar which he plays it on almost all the Kings’ hits.  A source said: ‘He was livid about the sound and took out his anger on stage without considering the consequences.  ‘His guitar is now ruined. The crowd were oblivious to the sound difficulties but the Kings want every show to be perfect.  ‘When they came off stage, tempers flared and they were effing and blinding at each other. It was really nasty before their tour manager stepped in. They were even threatening to pull out of Oxegen.’

Maximo Park announce second tour

Their third album, the critically acclaimed “Quicken the Heart” has debuted in the UK top 10, a special comeback show at Newcastle almost caused riots and made headline news, and they have since booked key slots at all the major festivals this summer, including Glastonbury, T-in-the-Park, Reading and Leeds and many more. Now, they are back to conquer the UK all over again with their own shows, playing songs off their new record.  Maximo’s Paul Smith states: “Glasgow Barrowland has been a favourite of ours, as has Manchester Apollo; there’s a real history to these music halls. In London we had a think about places we haven’t played before that had a different feel and the Royal Albert Hall is a beautiful venue that appealed to us on a number of levels.”

Jack Penate and That Petrol Emotion join T in the Park

jack-penateJack Peñate is back and will be playing the Futures Stage at T in the Park on Sunday 12th July. For his second album he decided to rip it up and start again and the offering ‘Everything Is New’ is just that. Produced by one of the hottest British production talents around, Paul Epworth (who is also responsible for albums by fellow T in the Park artists Bloc Party and Friendly Fires), Peñate’s second album is an ambitious, lo-fi soul record which, from the sound of recent killer single ‘Tonight’s Today’, is going to get the Futures Stage crowd jumping to some top tracks. Reforming in 2008 after more than a decade on hiatus, That Petrol Emotion continue a string of successful reunion shows with a slot opening the Radio 1/NME Stage on Saturday 11th July. Critically lauded for their highly skilled musicianship, intense performances, diverse influences and political agenda, the band were considered musical pioneers and we know the Balado massive will give their return a warm reception when they kick off proceedings on the middle day of T in the Park.  Filling the same slot on the final day of revelry are Northern Irish rockers In Case of Fire who have been lined up to open the Radio 1/NME Stage on Sunday 12th July. Tipped as a top new talent, the band who have been described by NME as a ‘skyscraping pop-metal hybrid’, were the viewer’s choice of bands to watch out for on MTV’s 2008 ‘Spanking New’ coverage and were the opening act on the Kerrang! tour this year. The three-piece released their debut album ‘Align The Planets’ just last week and no doubt the Balado crowd will greet their set with the electric enthusiasm that provides T in the Park with it’s globally recognised atmosphere.

Manchester’s Delphic take to the Futures Stage on Saturday 11th July and will bring a strong dose of 1980s nostalgia to the T in the Park proceedings. Influenced by Factory Records, the Hacienda and acid house they play electronic music with a full band line up and will be supplying Balado with some massive hands in the air moments as their superior brand of indie dance takes over the crowds in the Futures Stage tent that is the home to the hottest new talent at T in the Park this summer.
