E! co-founder launches celebrity website. Watch videos and view red carpet photos from all your favorite celebrities at film premieres and Hollywood events. Read articles about the latest fashion and beauty trends, and get the celebrity look. The co-founder of E! is launching a celebrity-focused online network complete with several programs in the hope of establishing a new brand in the entertainment programing space. Alan Mruvka created E! (then called Movietime) 23 years ago with Larry Namer. Last week, he returned to his roots with the launch of the Look, a new site at thelooktv.com, which aims to blend fashion and celebrity programing with an e-commerce sales site. “When I was pitching E!, I used to say that TV is like a newspaper; there’s headlines and sports, but there was no (entertainment) section,” Mruvka said. “Now TV is like a magazine stand, with golf and food and everything else — it’s narrowcasting. Well, the thickest magazines are fashion magazines; that’s where the money is. The Look is as if you were to take InStyle magazine and make a network out of it.” Mruvka has been working on the Look for three years and is launching with about $10 million in self-raised investment capital. The Look isn’t aiming for linear cable network distribution — at least not yet. “I don’t believe it’s still about launching a network and getting it on TV any way you can,” he said. “The convergence of the Internet and TV is closer than ever, and I want to be on the edge of that.” Mruvka describes the Look as best resembling a hybrid of E! and its spinoff channel, the Style Network. “Our goal is to be the place to go to see what your favorite star is wearing and then buy it right then and there,” Mruvka said.
High School Student Sent Home For Wearing Lady GaGa Shirt! 15-year-old Cole Goforth was sent home from his high school in White House, Tennessee, on Monday for wearing a GaGalupe shirt that says, “I Heart Lady Gay Gay”!!!!! Greenbrier High School is claiming the defense that a shirt with the word “gay” on it could potentially make students feel “uncomfortable.” “I just think my sexuality isn’t widely accepted around here, so of course they are going to single me out,” said Cole. “I think they are singling him out… They’ve made statements that if he wore this in California, he’d fit in just fine,” Cole’s mom, Julie Gordon added. Apparently other students are allowed to wear “religious shirts and rebel flag shirts” to school, so why can’t Cole wear his Lady Gay Gay tee???? This is unacceptable!
The ‘Mean Girls’ star – whose film career has stalled in recent years – has caught the eye of Ivan Bart, the Senior Vice President of IMG Models. Upon hearing the 22-year-old actress could be considering a career change, Bart said: “She’s a beautiful girl and obviously knows a lot about fashion. Providing that she was contractually free, we would take a meeting.” Just last week, Lindsay revealed she is thinking about quitting acting to become a model. She said: “I love doing photo shoots. I mean, if I could just sign with IMG and do ad campaigns and model more, I’d do that because that’s fun for me. That’s not work.” Lindsay has already appeared in campaigns for Dooney and Bourke, Jill Stuart, Miu Miu and Fornarina. She recently spoke about the “terrifying” reality of being unemployed in Hollywood.
The star said: “It’s scary when you realise, ‘Oh my God, I’m not working. And I have a house to pay for now.’ and there’s been some things I’ve really wanted to do.”
More about Lindsay Lohan
Lindsay Dee Lohan was born in New York City, on 2 July 1986, to Dina Lohan and Michael Lohan. She began her career at age three as a Ford model, and also made appearances in over sixty television commercials, including spots for The Gap, Pizza Hut, Wendy’s, and Jell-O (opposite Bill Cosby). Lohan made her acting debut in 1996 as the third actress to play Ali Fowler in the television drama “Another World” (1964). Shortly afterward, she was hand-picked by Oscar-nominated writer Nancy Meyers as estranged twin sisters in an adaptation by Walt Disney Pictures of a novel by Erich Kästner, which marked Meyers’ directorial debut. Lohan’s first feature film, The Parent Trap (1998), a remake of The Parent Trap (1961), was a modest commercial success, earning her widespread critical acclaim, and a Young Artist award for Best Leading Young Actress in a Feature Film, as well as Blockbuster Entertainment and YoungStar award nominations.
After signing a three-movie contract with Disney, she returned to the small screen to star in the made-for-TV movies Life-Size (2000) (TV) (opposite Tyra Banks) and Get a Clue (2002) (TV) (opposite Bug Hall). She also appeared as Rose in the pilot episode of the short-lived comedy series “Bette” (2000), which starred Bette Midler.
In June 2001, Lohan took a brief hiatus from acting. Her music career was launched over a year later, when Estefan Enterprises made a five-album production deal with her in September 2002, and she signed a recording contract with the reactivated Casablanca Records.
But Lohan was not turning her back on her blossoming acting career. Just over a month previously, she had been cast opposite Jamie Lee Curtis for another Disney adaptation of a novel, this time of a fantasy comedy by Mary Rodgers. Freaky Friday (2003), a remake of Freaky Friday (1976), was a huge hit (generating over US$160 million in worldwide box office receipts), and critics were spellbound by delightful performances from Lohan and Curtis (who went on to receive a Golden Globe nomination for her work). In addition, Lohan won the 2004 MTV Movie Award for Best Breakthrough Female, as well as a Saturn award nomination and another Young Artist award nomination.
Lohan relocated permanently to Los Angeles, California, between projects, and moved into an apartment with fellow actress Raven-Symoné. She also dated pop star Aaron Carter for a short time.
Lohan’s next acting role was the title character in the comedy Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen (2004), a Disney adaptation of the novel by Dyan Sheldon. The film received scathing reviews upon its release and died a quick death at the box office, but even the harshest of critics were impressed by Lohan’s charming turn as aspiring actress Lola.
Lohan’s next project, Mean Girls (2004) saw her reunite with Freaky Friday (2003) director Mark Waters. Inspired by a non-fiction book by Rosalind Wiseman and written by “Saturday Night” (1975) scribe Tina Fey, the high-school comedy-drama opened to glowing reviews, and grossed $86 million in the US. This earned her status as a bankable actress, and a salary of $7.5 million for the Donald Petrie romantic comedy Just My Luck (2006).
One of the most sought-after young actresses in the industry, she is staring in Bobby (2006) (opposite Nick Cannon), The Fashionistas (2010) (based on the novel by Lynn Messina), the high school dramas “Dramarama” (1983), “Gossip Girl” (2007)(based on the novel by Cecily von Ziegesar), and the Disney fantasy adventure Herbie Fully Loaded (2005) (a pseudo-sequel to The Love Bug (1968)). On top of a thriving film career, Lohan released her debut album, called “Speak,” which hit shelves in December 2004.
In her spare time, Lohan enjoys swimming, basketball, shopping, singing, reading, writing, gymnastics, collecting Beanie Babies, roller-blading, and playing with her siblings Ali Lohan, Dakota and Michael Lohan.
Miley Cyrus (named Destiny Hope Cyrus) was born on November 23, 1992 in Nashville Tennessee to Billy Ray Cyrus (actor/country singer) and Leticia Finley. She has five siblings: Christopher, Braison Chance, Noah Lindsey, Brandy and Trace. [Quick fact: her father nicknamed her Miley because he thought that since she was a baby she never stopped smiling.]
She had always admired her father and the way he performed in front of an audience and had always wanted to do so.
She received her first acting role in 2003, playing opposite her father in the TV series Doc. She then appeared in episodes of other shows. Later that year she had her big screen debut in the movie Big Fish, playing a young Ruthie.
In 2006 her family moved to Los Angeles and after many interviews and call-backs she received her break-out role as Hannah Montana/Miley Stewart in the Disney Channel hit Hannah Montana. The show has been a big hit for Disney.
Miley has recently signed a four album contract with Hollywood Records. The Hannah Montana Soundtrack hit stores in on October 24, 2006.
In December of 2007, she began working on a spin-off movie to her TV series entitled Hannah Montana: The Movie due to be released on May 1, 2009.
Her One In A Million DVD was be released on Jan. 27, 2008.
On July 22, 2008, she released her sophomore album entitled Breakout which peaked at #1 (this was her first project that did not include the Hannah Montana franchise)
In July 2008, Miley and a friend (Mandy) published a parody on YouTube of a video YouTube blog by two other upcoming Disney pop princesses – Selena Gomez (Wizards of Waverly Place) and Demi Lovato (Camp Rock). Although no one knows for sure, it might have been created by Miley in response to Lovato allegedly dating Miley’s ex-boyfriend Nick Jonas of the Jonas Brothers. Who knows if calmer heads prevailed afterwards, PR people stepped in or Disney executives told their princesses to all play nice, but in an interview with PopStar! magazine, Miley said that she was “supersorry” if they were offended, but were just having fun and actually were trying to “support” Lovato and Gomez’s YouTube website.
She lent her voice to an animated character (Penny) in Bolt, which did fairly well in the box office and earned her a Golden Globe nomination.
In February 2009, she was criticized when photos of her making “slanted eyes” were published which made a number of groups upset. Although she apologized, some groups said it was not sincere. Comedian Margaret Cho has become very outspoken againt Miley, even calling her a disgrace. She has since been sued for $4 Billion dollars by a California woman on behalf of the Asian-Pacific Islander population of Los Angeles.
On April 10, 2009 she will be releasing a movie spin-off based on her hit TV show entitled “Hannah Montana: The Movie”
Miley is going to be in a sequel to Adventures in Babysitting tentatively entitled Further Adventures in Babysitting,
