Charlie Watts to quit Rolling Stones

A source within the Stones inner-circle says, ‘Charlie Watts has quit the band. He will never tour with the band again’.  The news does not come as a surprise. It was common knowledge that Keith Richards had to talk Charlie into contributing to the A Bigger Bang tour but this time it seems there is no calling Charlie back to active duty. ‘The Stones are looking to Keith’s Expensive Winos drummer Charley Drayton to fill the void in all future Stones’ callings,’ our source says.  With Mick Jagger planning more Stones activity next year, the departure of Charlie will be a huge blow to the band. Charlie was the backbone of the band.  The 68-year old drummer simply doesn’t want to do it anymore. Charlie joined the Rolling Stones in January, 1963. He didn’t expect it would last. In fact, he kept his day job for several months until the band started to feel like a career. Charlie’s decision to quit the band comes a three years short of the Stones 50th anniversary.   The Stones A Bigger Bang tour ran from August 2005 to August 2007. It was the highest tour of all-time.

Paolo Nutini to headline Eden Sessions

Paolo Nutini is announced as the fifth headliner at this summer’s Eden Sessions.  The soulful singer-songwriter will play the Eden stage on Tuesday July 13, joining Jack Johnson (June 26 – sold out), Mika (June 27), Doves and Mumford & Sons (July 2 – sold out) and Calvin Harris and Audio Bullys (July 3) on a blockbuster bill. Paolo launched his career with 2006 quadruple-platinum debut These Streets, including the top-ten single Last Request. He followed it up with last year’s second long-player Sunny Side Up. That album went straight to number one in the UK album charts and returned to the top on two separate occasions.  Hailing from Paisley in Scotland, Paolo has been singing and working in the music industry since leaving school at 16, including stints as a roadie and studio engineer. As a result, he has shown an understanding of live performance that belies his age and Atlantic Records recognised his potential early on and signed him just after his 18th birthday in 2005.    Paolo was nominated in two categories in this year’s BRITs – British Male Solo Artist and British Album for Sunny Side Up – and has rubbed shoulders will rock royalty, supporting Led Zeppelin at their O2 comeback show and sharing a stage with the Rolling Stones at the Isle of Wight Festival in 2007. Tjarko Wieringa, Eden Sessions Creative Director, said: “We’re proud to announce Paolo’s appearance at this year’s Eden Sessions – another fantastic coup! His laid-back brand of motown-tinged folk rock will be a perfect match for Eden’s beautiful surroundings. “With five announcements behind us, this year’s Sessions are promising to be our best yet. We have some of best, most high-profile artists in the world already on the bill and there will be more exciting announcements to come.” The Sessions are famed not only for bringing top acts to Cornwall but also for their festival feel, with extra bands and entertainers playing around the site in the run-up to the main event. Massage and alternative therapies will also be showcased around Eden on the day of each Session. The 2010 Sessions will be the ninth season of summer gigs at the Eden Project. Performers in previous years include Oasis, Kasabian, Florence and the Machine, Vampire Weekend, Paul Weller, Hot Chip, Muse, Editors, Snow Patrol, Basement Jaxx, Amy Winehouse, Moby, PJ Harvey and The Verve.

UB40  ‘LABOUR OF LOVE IV’ On 8th February UB40 will release ‘Labour Of Love IV’, their first Labour of Love album since 1998’s ‘Labour of Love III’. Someone once claimed UB40 are to reggae what the Beatles and Rolling Stones were to American rhythm and blues and as they release the latest installment of their best-selling Labour Of Love series, the truth of this statement is undeniable. Literally millions of people from across the globe have developed a love for Jamaican music after hearing UB40, and the band’s commitment to  their early influences is as strong as ever.

The Labour of Love series began in 1983, with a number one album and number one single (‘Red, Red Wine)’. This was followed in 1989 by LOL II, which spawned a no.4 single (‘Kingston Town’) and two US Billboard Top 10s. Another Top 10 album, LOL III, and single (‘Come Back, Darling’) was released in 1998. ‘Labour Of Love IV’ continues what has become a passion for the band; to share their love of reggae classics, some well-known, some not so, with the public-at-large. Recorded at the band’s Reflex Studios in Birmingham in the Spring 2009, the album comprises 14 tracks. Covers such as Delroy Wilson (‘Close To Me’), John Holt songs (‘I Don’t Want To See You Cry’ and ‘Man Next Door’) and Rocksteady vocal groups the Melodians (‘Get Along Without You Now’) and The Paragons (‘Holiday’) bestow this new album with such an infectious sense of joy, it’s hard to believe it’s the fourth in the series and not the first. UB40, just like other dedicated reggae fans, fervently want such artists – including Theo Beckford (‘Easy Snappin’’), Errol Dunkley (‘You’re Gonna Need Me’), Ken Parker (‘True True True’) and Hopeton Lewis (‘Boom Shacka Lacka’), who also contribute songs to Labour Of Love IV – to receive more recognition, and there’s now every chance of that happening with these mesmerising new versions. American soul stars Smokey Robinson (‘Tracks Of My Tears’), Sam Cooke (‘Bring It On Home To Me’) and Johnny Nash need no introduction here, except these songs were hugely popular within Caribbean communities, and had a lasting impact upon UB40 themselves. Johnny Nash was the first overseas’ act to cover a Bob Marley song and his ‘Cream Puff’ is a little-known gem from the very early seventies, when the Texan singer was being billed as “the King Of Reggae” in England. Robin Campbell saw him perform back then and says the band have wanted to cover Cream Puff for years. Labour Of Love IV is the first to feature another talented Campbell brother, Duncan, on lead vocals. Duncan would have been one of UB40’s vocalists right from the start had he not turned them down to pursue adventures around the world. Usually, when a world-famous band changes their lead singer, the transition isn’t exactly seamless. Duncan was a natural choice however – not only because he’s family but also because he sings with such feeling, like a man who’s come to claim his rightful legacy. Robin, Astro, Norman and Earl also sing lead vocals on various tracks on the album, and such versatility – twinned with UB40’s remarkable consistency – make it another wonderful addition to the series.

Christina Aguilera sexuality is not something to be ashamed of

christina-aguilera-babyChristina Aguilera plans to show her raunchy pop video for ‘Dirrty’ to her son. The US singer – who has 21-month-old son Max Liron with her husband Jordan Bratman – said she is looking forward to showing him Max all of her videos, including ‘Dirrty’ which features her in leather hotpants.  She said: ‘He’ll see all of my work, I’m sure. But I think that’s also a part of what I want him to appreciate in women – the fact that sexuality is not something you should be ashamed of. ‘The more you try to forbid something and keep it secret, the more it becomes this thing you should be fearful of.’  Christina, 28, also said she is shaping Max up to be a rocker when he grows up, by playing him classic bands such as the Rolling Stones.  She added: ‘I play him Led Zeppelin and the Rolling Stones. And if Max wanted to have a music career for the same reasons as me, then I would say ‘Go for it’. I am really into encouraging him as an individual – whether he wants to be a vet, a scientist or a garbage man. As long as he has a passion for it.’

Sir Paul McCartney hit by recession

paul_mccartneySir Paul McCartney and Sir Elton John have both lost £60 million in the last year.  The two musical legends have felt the effects of the current economic crisis and seen millions wiped off the value of their investments, new information has revealed.  Paul has been hit hard by a fall in the value of property and shares. His divorce from Heather Mills also cost him £24.3 million. However, he is still worth around £440 million.

Elton saw his fortune decline from £238 million to £175 million after losing out to the recession and giving an estimated £42 million to charity.  Sunday Times Rich List Editor Ian Coxon, who compiled the list, said: “Wealthy stars have taken a similar hit to the rest of the population.”  According to the list, Rolling Stones star Sir Mick Jagger experienced a 16 per cent loss, seeing his assets fall to £190 million, while Angels singer Robbie Williams is worth £80 million, down from £105 million after failing to release any new material.  Coxon said: “Robbie Williams is run as a business and there has been a profit fall in 2007, so that has had a knock-on effect. He has never quite fulfilled the promise he had a few years ago.  The man behind the Spice Girls, Simon Fuller, lost a staggering £150 million but is still worth £300 million.

Not all celebrities have been hit by the economic downturn.  Music mogul Simon Cowell made an impressive £35 million profit, while Girls Aloud beauty Cheryl Cole, who was a judge on his hit British TV talent show The X Factor, saw her wealth rise by £2 million.  Previous winner of the UK programme Leona Lewis also made £2 million, and Oasis rockers Liam and Noel Gallagher saw their earnings boosted by £7 million collectively.  Topping the list of the richest people in music with £1.3 billion was Clive Calder, founder of the Zomba Music Group, which was sold to Bertelsman AG in 2002.  The full 2009 Times Rich List will be released on Sunday (26.04.09).

Sid Vicious most controversial rock star

sid-viciousSid Vicious has been voted the most controversial rock star of all time.  The former Sex Pistols bassist – who died of a heroin overdose in 1979, months after he was accused of murdering his girlfriend Nancy Spungen – topped a poll of 2,000 music fans to find the ultimate rock wildchild, scooping 25 per cent of the vote. Black Sabbath frontman Ozzy Osbourne – who famously bit the head off a bat during a concert – was voted second, narrowly beating 65-year-old Rolling Stones star Keith Richards into third place. Amy Winehouse was the highest placed contemporary artist, earning the fourth spot for her hard partying, drug abuse and infamous late night walks around London. Michael Jackson – whose career has been rocked by a string of child abuse scandals – also earned a place in the top five thanks to his bizarre appearance, controversial marriages and extreme behaviour. Richard Wheeler, Head of Music at, who compiled the survey, said: “There are some colourful characters in rock ‘n’ roll and it’s clear contemporary artists still have some way to go before they knock these legends off their perch.  “Old reputations die hard – especially when you’re known for biting off a bat’s head live on stage.” Goth rocker Marilyn Manson, Babyshambles singer Pete Doherty, troubled pop princess Britney Spears, Kurt Cobain’s widow Courtney Love and ‘Hung Up’ star Madonna made up the rest of the top 10.

Marianne Faithfull set for the big screen

marianne-faithfullMARIANNE FAITHFULL’S life story is to be turned into a movie.  The singer, a former girlfriend of Rolling Stones singer Mick Jagger, announced today that it would be adapted from her 1994 autobiography. Speaking to the BBC, she said:”It won’t happen right away but we have found a director who I trust who wants to make a film of the book.” Faithfull found fame in the 1960s and developed a reputation for being a party animal, being linked to Bob Dylan as well as Jagger. The 62-year-old admitted that her life had been ‘a great story’, but added that she would have no choice in who played her in the as-yet-untitled film.

She said: “I’m not getting involved. I’ll read the script, when it’s ready, which isn’t for a long time, and then I’ll leave it to the director and the actress he chooses.

“I don’t want to have much to do with it. I want to read the script and like the script and then I’m going to let go of it and let them do what they want. That’s the way to do it.”

Faithfull is currently preparing to release her 22nd studio album and will play a one off show at London’s Royal Festival Hall on July 20th.

Sarah Harding to play Jo Wood

sarah-hardingSarah Harding wants to play Jo Wood in a movie about her life.

The Girls Aloud singer recently befriended the estranged wife of Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood and would love the chance to portray the former model on the big screen.

She said: “Jo is amazing. She’s my new favorite person. She’s had such an extraordinary life. It’s fascinating. Her stories are unbelievable. They’d make a wicked film.”

The 27-year-old blonde beauty and Jo, 53, have been spotted partying together since meeting at London Fashion Week and danced the night away at a trendy London nightclub on Tuesday (24.02.09).

She explained: “I was out with my boyfriend Tommy and we ended up partying with Jo Wood. She’s always in there with her friends – she is an amazing woman. Then we went back to our house and played Wii bowling. How rock ‘n’ roll can you get?”

Sarah also confessed she is considering permanently switching from music to acting and is thrilled with her latest acting role, in the upcoming BBC drama ‘Freefall’.

Speaking about the show, Sarah said: “I love acting. And I’m so proud of this one. Dominic Savage’s stuff is all about improvisation. It’s so different from what I normally do, which is so rehearsed and prepared. I could really express myself. I can’t wait until my next film and fancy something other-wordly.”

Full Sarah Harding Biography
Sarah Nicole Harding (born 17 November 1981, in Ascot) is an English singer in the girl group Girls Aloud, and model. Harding grew up as a Catholic in Poynton, Stockport, Greater Manchester, England, and is the oldest member of Girls Aloud.

Harding attended Hazel Grove High School and Stockport College, she worked as part of the promotions team for 2 nightclubs in The Grand Central Leisure Park in Stockport. Harding was also a regular singer at Karaoke nights in the Whistling Jig, Puss and Boots pub as well as many others and did some vocals for Project G on some unreleased tracks. Project G was a band for which Harding provided backing vocals, long before Girls Aloud came along. She did some photoshoots for promotion but no album, nor known singles exist. Some tracks that have leaked onto the internet include “Searching” and “Don’t Wanna Be Alone”. Whilst working as a waitress and barmaid in Manchester, she entered the UK talent-search show Popstars: The Rivals.

Harding also entered FHM’s High Street Honeys, the magazine’s national beauty contest, and her pictures appeared in the first Top 100, but she later withdrew, upon achieving success on Popstars. A year later, she was voted one of the Top 30 sexiest women in the world, by readers of the same magazine. In 2005, she entered the same Top 10 at Number 8, slipping to Number 15 in 2006, and to Number 17 in 2007.

In the finale of the “Popstars” show, she was picked as the final member of the five-piece group, Girls Aloud, that formed the female half of the eponymous ‘rivals’. She defeated Javine Hylton for the final place, in a result that provoked a measure of surprise and controversy.

As a member of Girls Aloud, Harding has taken part in many events and TV shows, such as the August 25, 2006 episode of The Friday Night Project. Sarah co-hosted the show with Cheryl Cole and Kimberley Walsh. During her time with the group she has co-written numerous songs, including “Hear Me Out”, which appeared on the group’s second album What Will The Neighbours Say?. She’s also credited as one of the writers of “Why Do It?”, the b-side for “I Think We’re Alone Now” single.

Outside of Girls Aloud, Harding signed a £100,000 deal to model Ultimo lingerie, following the likes of Penny Lancaster, Rachel Hunter and Helena Christensen. Reports claim that Sarah was chosen to model the underwear range after she was seen wearing a bikini on holiday in the papers.

Harding has filmed a cameo appearance in a British independent film called Bad Day, due for release in 2007. She plays a brunette girl called Jade Jennings who sits in the back of a cab and swears down the phone. The film also stars Donna Air and Claire Goose.

Harding has recently been seen as the face of Coke Zero, upon its launch in Ireland. She will also advertise and promote Sunsilk with the rest of Girls Aloud.

Harding once blagged a first-class flight to Dubai with good friend Danielle Lloyd. They later fell out when Lloyd became more serious with her boyfriend Teddy Sheringham. Harding stated this in an interview with OK! magazine saying that she and Lloyd “drifted apart.”

Harding’s love-life has been in constant speculation since becoming famous. She met her ex-boyfriend Mikey Green on Popstars: The Rivals, who went on to become a member of the boyband Phixx. After going out for two years, they split up, got back together, and then broke up again. She was also linked to Liverpool F.C. footballer John Arne Riise and the actor Stephen Dorff, a rumour denied by Sarah during a short interview on BBC Radio 1 with JK & Joel on July 13, 2006. From late 2006 to mid-2007, Sarah was in a relationship with Daily Star gossip columnist Joe Mott. She is now dating Tom Crane, whom she met while he was DJ’ing at Mahiki Nightclub in London. He also owns a souvenir stand at Covent Garden market.

On September 10, 2005, Harding was one of the celebrity bridesmaids for Jordan’s wedding to Peter Andre in Berkshire.

Sarah is also friends with Mani from Primal Scream and Oasis singer Liam Gallagher. In the Oasis rockumentary “Lord Don’t Slow Me Down” Liam invites Girls Aloud to a concert during an Oasis photoshoot.

She receives most of her attention from her constant partying and drinking. The Sun newspaper has her in their “Caner’s League”.
