The Strokes’ bassist Nikolai Fraiture says another album will be released ‘as soon as possible’.

There was a gaping chasm between 2006′s First Impressions Of Earth and this year’s Angles, both in time and quality.

Thankfully, The Strokes are already back in the studio writing, seemingly in the hopes of erasing the bad vibes surrounding the recording and release of Angles.

Speaking to Rolling Stone, bassist Nickolai Fraiture seemed much happier, saying ‘it’s feeling really good’, a change from the grumbling between singer Julian Casablancas and the rest of the band over the stilted sessions for Angles.

That said, Fraiture confirmed, ‘We’re kind of doing the same thing as the last record ‘ we’re bringing in parts and ideas and kind of just working on those and trying to make sense of them, coming from five different people.”

Fraiture seems excited about getting new sounds out to the public very soon, “If we could do it tomorrow, that’d be great. But yeah, as soon as possible I think.”

Perhaps necessarily, guitarist Albert Hammond Jr chastened Fraiture saying, ‘Let’s get songs first and then think about recording.”

Britney Spears kicked off her latest tour at Sacramento’s Power Balance Pavilion to thousands of her biggest fans. According to the reviews, the “Femme Fatale,” well, killed.

“It’s opening night, b—-!,” Britney tweeted before she hit the stage, and her fans shared in the excitement, reportedly screaming for the 29-year-old star constantly through her 90-minute set.
She didn’t disappoint, moving through hit after hit like “..Baby One More Time,” “Toxic,” and “I’m a Slave 4 U,” to her latest like opener “Hold It Against Me” and “Till the World Ends.”
Rolling Stone’s Barry Walters called it “her flashiest, fastest moving, and most entertaining production yet,” and that she’s “doing it better than even die-hard defenders would’ve predicted.”
The Sacramento Bee’s Carla Meyer said she “captivated,” while frequent Spears critic Perez Hilton, whom ironically opened her last “Circus” tour, claims, “She’s still got it.”
E! Online’s Mark Malkin, invited to an exclusive dress rehearsal of the show days before opening, said Spears “sings, dances and gives you some of her best work ever.” “Just let me say that if you don’t have tickets yet, run and get them now,” Malkin adds.
Spears seemed pretty pleased with her performance as well, tweeting after the show, “Can’t sleep. WAY too much Adrenaline right now. Sacramento was on fire tonight. You ready San Jose? Cause I am!”
Spears’ tour continues around the country through the summer. Along with announcing a European trek, she recently added dates in cities like Raleigh, NC, Charlotte, NC, and Hartford, CT.

Lady Gaga Was 2010's Magazine Cover Bestseller.

Lady Gaga Was 2010′s Magazine Cover Bestseller. Lady Gaga was the past year’s safest bet for magazine editors. The Grammy Award-winning hitmaker sold the most issues of magazines in 2010, according to the Audit Bureau of Circulations. The numbers, obtained by our source, did not cover the whole year, but just until November for Conde Nast magazines and October for Hearst titles. But through the end of September, it was clearly Gaga’s year on print as she sold the most issues for magazines she graced the cover on. She was Rolling Stone’s top-selling issue when she appeared on its July 8 cover in a thong with two automatic weapons. It sold 245,000 copies, nearly three times better than its 2010 average. She was also Cosmopolitan’s top seller, selling 1.7 million copies during its April issue.”The Fame” hitmaker’s September cover was the second bestseller of Vanity Fair, behind only Angelina Jolie, selling 450,000 copies, which is more than 80,000 better than its average. Elle magazine also scored its third bestseller of the year through October when they featured the singer on their January cover. Our source also reports that Rihanna was a newsstand hit. Her GQ magazine January cover became the second bestseller of the year through November, while her August Seventeen cover was the top seller through the end of October. However, the “Only Girl (In the World)” singer underperformed when her July Elle cover sold just 285,000 copies, a little below average for the magazine. Meanwhile, it was an unfortunate issue for the magazines who chose Taylor Swift to grace their cover. The country pop sweetheart gave Elle magazine its worst selling issue of the year when she appeared on its April cover. Her Glamour cover for November didn’t also work. It was the magazine’s second worst seller, while her July Marie Claire cover was the third worst for the magazine.

Sarah Blasko secures Temper Trap support UK tour

Sarah Blasko is announced as the Special Guest on her fellow countrymen’s 14 date UK tour in April and May. Having won the ARIA Award and Rolling Stone Award for Best Female and the coveted J Award for Album Of The Year with her 2009 release ‘As Day Follows Night’ in Australia, Sarah is relocating to Europe for much of 2010. ‘As Day Follows Night’, which was produced by Björn Yttling (from Peter, Bjorn and John) and recorded in Sweden, is Sarah’s third album but the first to be released in Europe.  Drawing comparisons with Fiona Apple and Lisa Loeb in a recent review in Uncut magazine, ‘As Day Follows Night’ is an elegant, intelligent collection that is her most lyrically direct, musically simple and emotionally affecting album to date. Rolling Stone wrote ‘as warm as Blasko has ever sounded – immaculate, organic and airy’ whilst long-time fan and Go-Between Robert Forster described the album as ‘A triumph. Blasko has written a wonderfully diverse and melodic collection,.a remarkable set of songs,a wonderful record. A classic, in fact.’

Having played in Britain a handful of times in the past (supporting Tom McRae in 2005 and a couple of headline shows in London) Sarah will be joining The Temper Trap on tour following a run of dates on the continent with Les Femme S’en Mêlent Festival.

Sony celebrate Elvis King of rock’n’roll’ 75th birthday with ‘Elvis 75′

Sony Music this week release ‘ELVIS 75’ the ultimate career-spanning collection that celebrates the 75th birthday of Elvis Presley and the life and music of the world’s first rock and roll star. The three CD, 75 song collection will be released on Monday 4 January 2010, four days before what would have been The King’s 75th Birthday.

This is the first major Elvis Presley retrospective to cover the artist’s biggest hits in the UK. Covering the full spectrum of his world-changing career, ‘ELVIS 75’ demonstrates Presley at his best. The three CD collection runs from ‘Heartbreak Hotel’ – the classic that first made Elvis’ name in the UK back in 1956, to the hugely popular ‘A Little Less Conversation’ – the #1 JXL remix that was released in 2002 and reaffirmed the British adoration for the hip-swivelling King of rock’n’roll.

Offering fans an unprecedented range of essential material, ‘ELVIS 75’ provides a generous selection of the biggest UK smash hits, encompassing many genres and amazingly all 75 of these songs were Top 20 hits!
