The Wombats announce major January tour

The Wombats

The Wombats

The Wombats announce major January tour. The anticipation surrounding the return of The Wombats continues to escalate. Their upcoming single ‘Tokyo (Vampires & Wolves)’ received a glorious global premiere on Zane Lowe’s Radio 1 where it was named the Hottest Record In The World and was swiftly followed by the news that their October tour dates sold out almost immediately. ‘Tokyo (Vampires & Wolves)’ has also since been named as Zane Lowe’s Single of the Week. The latest development comes with the confirmation of a full UK and Ireland tour that culminates with a sizeable London date at the HMV Hammersmith Apollo. Renowned as one of the nation’s most incendiary live bands and also confirmed as one of the major attractions at Australia’s touring Parklife festival, The tour’s pre-sell commences on 9am on Wednesday, September 1st from before going on general sale from 9am on Friday, September 3rd. The Wombats are about to return to Los Angeles to complete work on their second album with producer Rich Costey (Muse, Interpol, Franz Ferdinand) having already collaborated on the project with Jacknife Lee (U2, Snow Patrol, R.E.M.) and Eric Valentine (Queens of the Stone Age, Lostprophets). The Wombats completed two huge sold-out UK tours which included triumphant shows at Brixton Academy, a unique one-off headline show at London’s Royal Albert Hall and a massive homecoming show at the 10,000 capacity Liverpool Echo Arena. They were nominated for Best UK Act at the MTV Europe Awards, and played a plethora of enormous festival appearances including a co-headline set on the NME/Radio 1 stage at Reading and Leeds as well as storming sets at Glastonbury, T in the Park, Isle of Wight and Oxegen.

Favourite Australian baroque-pop Operator Please release ‘Gloves’

Australian baroque-pop Operator Please

Australian baroque-pop Operator Please

Operator Please release ‘Gloves’  Everyone’s favourite Australian baroque-pop ™ collective, Operator Please, burst onto the music scene in early 2007 with their addictive ‘Song About Ping Pong’, and their infectious debut album Yes Yes Vindictive. Aged only 16 they toured the world wowing crowds with their incredible presence and energy in Australia, Europe and Japan and found themselves supporting the likes of Bloc Party, Futureheads, Kaiser Chiefs and Arctic Monkeys. Now they are back, all grown up, and with a remarkably sophisticated sophomore album, titled Gloves. The band spent the last 12 months pouring their hearts into their work, self-producing the record at a farm near Australia’s Byron Bay, and in singer Amandah Wilkinson’s lounge on the Gold Coast, before mixing it in Los Angeles with long time No Doubt collaborator Jimmy Harry. ‘Gloves’ shows a fresh new direction for the band, a sound already turning heads as the first release, ‘Logic’, hits Australian and international airwaves.  The reaction at home in Austrlaia was incredible, with national radio stations ripping and adding the track instantly after the band posted it on their myspace. Proving to be an instant hit there, ‘Logic’ – released in the UK last week digitally and limited edition 7′ on Brille Records – has also been picking up attention here from Radio 1, 6 Music, XFM, MTV, NME and all over the worldwide web. The album, ‘Gloves’ will be released in the UK on May 31st, preceded by the summery single ‘Back And Forth’ on May 24th. The album is already available for fans to pre-order via the bands website at along with exclusive goodies, including a limited edition cassette of bonus tracks.

Alan McKim launches new EP on April 16 . After selling out The Captain’s Rest at the end of 2009, Alan McKim is starting off 2010 with a bang in the lead up to his EP release in April. So far this year Alan McKim celebrated Radio 1 play with Vic Galloway’s show, and a support slot with Brett Anderson (Suede). Alan is signed to Nettwerk One Music Limited Publishing.   Alan is steadily progressing with a musical career which is brimming with commercial promise. Consecutive shows and energised, emotive performances at King Tut’s resulted in a recommendation that he perform at last summer’s Hydro Connect Festival, which he did, to great response.   Over the past few months Alan has also had the privilege of working with some extraordinarily talented songwriters in London, Leeds and Derbyshire. These have included; Steve Chrisanthou & John Beck (the guys who co-wrote Corinne Bailey Rae’s ‘Put Your Records On’), Tim Kellett (ex member of Simply Red and James Morrisson co-writer) and Dele Ladimeji (London based songwriter signed to Peer Music, the same people who manage Newton Faulkner).

Jack Penate and That Petrol Emotion join T in the Park

jack-penateJack Peñate is back and will be playing the Futures Stage at T in the Park on Sunday 12th July. For his second album he decided to rip it up and start again and the offering ‘Everything Is New’ is just that. Produced by one of the hottest British production talents around, Paul Epworth (who is also responsible for albums by fellow T in the Park artists Bloc Party and Friendly Fires), Peñate’s second album is an ambitious, lo-fi soul record which, from the sound of recent killer single ‘Tonight’s Today’, is going to get the Futures Stage crowd jumping to some top tracks. Reforming in 2008 after more than a decade on hiatus, That Petrol Emotion continue a string of successful reunion shows with a slot opening the Radio 1/NME Stage on Saturday 11th July. Critically lauded for their highly skilled musicianship, intense performances, diverse influences and political agenda, the band were considered musical pioneers and we know the Balado massive will give their return a warm reception when they kick off proceedings on the middle day of T in the Park.  Filling the same slot on the final day of revelry are Northern Irish rockers In Case of Fire who have been lined up to open the Radio 1/NME Stage on Sunday 12th July. Tipped as a top new talent, the band who have been described by NME as a ‘skyscraping pop-metal hybrid’, were the viewer’s choice of bands to watch out for on MTV’s 2008 ‘Spanking New’ coverage and were the opening act on the Kerrang! tour this year. The three-piece released their debut album ‘Align The Planets’ just last week and no doubt the Balado crowd will greet their set with the electric enthusiasm that provides T in the Park with it’s globally recognised atmosphere.

Manchester’s Delphic take to the Futures Stage on Saturday 11th July and will bring a strong dose of 1980s nostalgia to the T in the Park proceedings. Influenced by Factory Records, the Hacienda and acid house they play electronic music with a full band line up and will be supplying Balado with some massive hands in the air moments as their superior brand of indie dance takes over the crowds in the Futures Stage tent that is the home to the hottest new talent at T in the Park this summer.

The Xcerts plans for their next single

the-xcerts-2THE XCERTS’ story began around the turn of the century when then 13-year-olds Murray MacLeod (vocals, guitar) and Jordan Smith (bass, vocals) met in the headmaster’s office of their school in Aberdeen. In 2006 they relocated to Brighton and met drummer and Exeter exile Tom Heron, where the line-up of THE XCERTS was finalised.  After a barrage of dates with Future of the left, Bat for Lashes, Biffy Clyro, Make Model, Cage the Elephant, Brakes, Get Cape.Wear Cape. Fly and Fighting with Wire and recent supports with Enter Shikari and Feeder, THE XCERTS are gearing up for recording their debut full length album late summer with producer Dave Eringa (Manic Street Preachers / Idlewild) .  They’re a double edged sword of ferocious guitar and dainty, poetic words – a distorted pop band who fuse the influences of fellow countrymen Idlewild and Biffy Clyro with the thoughtful approach to songwriting of old school ‘emo’ bands like Jimmy Eat World and Bright Eyes. With support from Radio 1, XFM, MTV2, Rock Sound and !Kerrang, and a work ethic of epic proportions with a live show to match, these are exciting times for the Aberdeen / Exeter and Brighton based trio.  “Nothing short of astonishing” – !Kerrang  “Ludicrously Punchy” – Steve Lamacq  “’The Xcerts are going to be making big strides in 2008” – Drowned in Sound  Following the release of their critically acclaimed debut album ‘In The Cold Wind We Smile’ The Xcerts can now reveal plans for their next single. ‘Just Go Home’ will be released on 8th June through Xtra Mile Recordings as a download on iTunes and all major DSPs.  Fans who purchase ‘Just Go Home’ in the week of release are eligible for an additional free live track recorded at the band’s recent sold out Glasgow show and mixed by Dave Eringa (Idlewild, Manic Street Preachers,) who also produced the band’s debut album. For more information please see No strangers to the road, The Xcerts who spent a lot of last year touring with the likes of Get Cape, Wear Cape.
