McDonalds Faced With Lawsuit Over Toys In Happy Meals

McDonalds Faced With Lawsuit Over Toys In Happy Meals.  A consumer watchdog group is threatening fast-food giant McDonalds with legal action if it continues to include toys in its Happy Meals kids’ menu packages. The Center for Science in the Public Interest released a statement Tuesday saying that giving away toys to promote Happy Meals encourages kids “to prefer foods that may harm their health.”  The group’s litigation director, Stephen Gardner, said providing the toys is “a creepy and predatory practice that warrants an injunction.”  McDonald’s spokesman William Whitman said his company strongly disagrees with Gardner’s statement. He told the Los Angeles Times that the restaurant chain offers kids healthier alternatives like apple slices instead of French fries, and that Happy Meals are one of several family-friendly products the company offers. The legal threat comes two months after a California county banned fast food companies from using toys to promote children’s meals
