Coldplay to release Christmas single.  Coldplay are going to release a special once-off Christmas single on Wednesday December 1. The track ‘Christmas Lights’ will be available through ‘itunes and everything’ from 8pm, Wednesday December 1. There isn’t a whole lot of information on the song, but in a note from the band Coldplay said ‘t is in the key of G. We hope you have a great Christmas/holidays. Yours truly, Coldplay.’ This might be just enough to tie fans over until their as-yet-untitled fifth studio album hits stores sometime next year. In the meantime, the band have two special intimate shows in Newcastle and Liverpool, U.K. and will be appearing at Germany’s Rock Am Ring and Rock Im Park festivals in June, 2011.

If we’re going for a pithy comparison, let’s just say it combines the strut of Prince’s ‘Sign Of The Times’ (or better yet, Beck’s ‘Midnight Vultures’) with atmospheric, euphoria-fuelled guitars alá MGMT’s ‘Oracular Spectacular’.
