Kings of Leon share close bond

The Kings of Leon documentary maker insists the band’s family bond means there are ‘more great albums’ to come.

Stephen Mitchell directed Talihina Sky: The Story of Kings of Leon, which gave a behind-the-scenes look at life in the band comprising brothers Caleb, Nathan and Jared Followill and their cousin Matthew.

Earlier this month the band released a statement saying they were cancelling their US tour because Caleb was ‘suffering from vocal issues and exhaustion’. Reports followed that he had been urged to enter rehab after he left the stage during a show in Dallas telling fans he was ‘gonna vomit’ and ‘drink a beer’.

The band plan to resume the shows in Canada in September, and Stephen has spoken out in support of the rockers. He is confident they won’t have any problems getting back on track after this drama.

“It’s a fabric of the band, the roots of the band, they’re family, and I think that’s a reason that they’ve been able to find a common ground to stick together and make five albums over, what, eight-plus years?” he explained.

“That’s really hard to do. There’s not many bands making two albums, let alone five, during that time… they make the great music, but I believe in them and I think the family side of it will be the same reason we end up seeing more great shows and hearing more great albums from them in the future.”

The documentary features one particular scene where Caleb doesn’t attempt to hide his use of intoxicating substances. Stephen feels there was no harm in including that sequence in the documentary, as the movie was meant to be revealing.

“No, and for the record, I might have been more drunk and stoned than Caleb during that interview,” he laughed when MTV Radio asked if he regretted keeping the scene in the film.

“That was a night he and I sat down, actually it was during the Only By the Night sessions, and after working in the studio all day, he said, ‘I want you to come over to the house and let’s sit down.’ … I think it was an amazing conversation, and I think there’s a lot of the film that, looking back, [I] have regrets about showing this or doing that. We made our decisions a while ago and we’re sticking to them and living with them.’

Jared Followill admits Kings of Leon have ‘problems’

Jared Followill has admitted there are ‘problems’ in Kings of Leon.

The American rock band, comprising of brothers Caleb, Nathan and Jared Followill and their cousin Matthew, have been hitting the headlines after a series of concerts were postponed and another was cancelled this weekend.

Controversy was sparked on Friday when singer Caleb left the stage in Dallas with three songs still remaining to be played.

“I’m trying to sing but I haven’t got a voice, I’ve got nothing,” he said at the time.

The rockers then pulled out of a show in Houston, Texas, the following night. According to the band’s representative Caleb was suffering from “heat exhaustion and dehydration’ which had caused his “vocal chords to seize”.

Jared has expressed his fears about the band on social-networking site Twitter, hinting that the issues run deeper.

“I know you guys aren’t stupid. I can’t lie. There are problems in our band bigger than not drinking enough Gatorade,” he wrote.

Kings of Leon have rescheduled their concert at the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion in Texas for September. Meanwhile, their US tour is expected to continue in Tampa, Florida on August 2.

Kings of Leon star Caleb Followill does not know when his wedding is taking place. The rocker ‘ who is set to marry Victoria’s Secret model Lily Aldridge later this month ‘ knows within a 10-day range when he will tie the knot but does not know the exact date because his fiancee won’t tell him.

He said: “You have to ask Lily about the wedding date. She won’t tell me. I think it’s somewhere between May 10 and May 20, but she won’t tell me because I have a big mouth!’

Although Caleb is in the dark about his big day, his brothers and bandmates Nathan and Jared have revealed they have some big plans for the reception.

Jared told People: “It’s going to be a very small wedding and then a big party. I think there are only like maybe 25 people or so going to the wedding, but a lot of people will be at the party.”

Nathan added: “I’m the best man and they’re having lemon custard for their wedding cake.”

Lily has been welcomed fully into the Followill family by the band ‘ which also includes the trio’s cousin Matthew Followill ‘ with Jared admitting everyone “loves” her.

He said: “We love her! I’m so excited for the wedding. I just hope she invites all of her model friends to the wedding. That’s the only reason I’m going.”

Lily has previously revealed the pair are having a traditional wedding ceremony, although it was not what she wanted at first.

She said: “My wedding is going to be very traditional. I didn’t think at first I wanted that. But now that it’s getting closer, traditional is kind of nice.”

The trailer for a forthcoming Kings Of Leon documentary shows the band’s schism between religion and stardom. The forthcoming documentary Talihina Sky examines the religious struggles of the Followill clan who make up superstar rockers the Kings Of Leon. A trailer for the film has emerged, showing the band confessing that they felt like they were going to hell for getting a record deal, smoking pot and drinking, puking, imitating drug use, fighting, and firing a gun. It shows family video of their heavily religious Pentecostal upbringing in Tennessee and throughout the Deep South, and interviews with Caleb, Nathan and Jared’s United Pentecostal Church preacher father Ivan Leon Followill. He says, ‘ don’t wanna say my kids are going to hell, nothing like that, but as far as what I envisioned [for their future], it’s a little different’. The film, named after a Kings Of Leon song that itself is named after an Oklahoma town, will debut at Tribeca Film Festival on April 21.

Glee creator Ryan Murphy has accused Kings Of Leon drummer of homophobia

After the pair became involved in an online spat yesterday (January 26). Murphy slammed the band for turning down the show’s request to feature their music, branding them “self-centred assholes”. Followill hit back by posting on his Twitter page, Twitter.com/doctorfollowill. Although the original tweet was deleted, Billboard reports that the drummer wrote: “Dear Ryan Murphy, let it go. See a therapist, get a manicure, buy a new bra. Zip your lip and focus on educating seven year-olds how to say f*ck.” Murphy then responded by accusing Followill of homophobia, a claim the sticksman denied online. “That’s [Followill] a homophobe badly in need of some education,” Murphy told celebrity our source. “I’m all for manicures, don’t wear a bra. Would guess most gay dudes don’t.” He added: “It’s telling that Nathan can reduce a group of people to a mean-spirited cliché, in a time where young gay men are killing themselves all over the country because of hatred like this. “That said, I would love to sit down with Nathan or any member of Kings and Leon, and tell them how on Glee we actually love their music, and support their artistry… but cannot condone or even laugh at their clear disdain of gay people.” Followill responded by tweeting: “I’m sorry for anyone that misconstrued my comments as homophobic or misogynistic. I’m so not that kind of person. I really do apologise.”

Kings of Leon refused to let Prince Harry win a table tennis match. The drummer Nathan Followill thinks the 26-year-old royal ‘ who is third in line to the British throne ‘ is ‘cool’ but his competitive nature came to the forefront when they recently met at London’s The O2. Nathan said: ‘We’re still pretty wide-eyed about meeting dignitaries but he’s the cool prince I think. He picked up a ping-pong bat backstage and we went at it.    I”m not sure what the etiquette is when you play a prince at ping-pong, but hey I’m the king aren’t I? A king trumps a prince. I think the other guys thought, ‘Maybe you should let a real prince win.’ ‘But he is so tall and he’s got military training so I figured he can look after himself. It was a hard-fought battle but I took him in the end.’ Nathan ‘ who formed the band with his brothers Caleb, Jared and their cousin Matthew Followill, – also said while the group would be honoured if they were asked to play for Harry’s brother Prince William’s wedding in April, they would prefer to wait for the younger royal to get married. He told The Sun newspaper: ‘Man, we would jump at playing the royal wedding if we were asked. Wills and Kate look like nice people. ‘But Harry is the dude. His is the wedding we would most likely play. He knows his music. He keeps it real on his iPod.’

Glastonbury 2011- Who's playing.

Glastonbury 2011- Who’s playing.  The last year before Glasto takes a break for the Olympics, Music News takes a look at what’s being lined up for next year’s premier UK festival. Already self confirmed for the bash are The Coral, who confirmed in November through their Twitter account. Fatboy Slim also confirmed an appearance immediately after his 2010 performance too. Other strong rumours include Kylie Minogue on the Pyramid Stage, as she was infamously booked in 2005 to close the Sunday before pulling out. The reformed Pulp seem certainties to make a headline appearance across the weekend. The band played a vintage set in 1995 and their reform is likely to be due to a set booked at Glastonbury. U2 have been rumoured to make a headline appearance this year after missing their 2010 slot due to Bono’s back injury, however a secret slot appears more likely. Whether they do appear as headliners or with a secret appearance, I’d bet my entire treasured back catalogue of Nirvana on U2 making some sort of appearance at Glastonbury next year. Other names that have been thrown into the mix include Prince,Coldplay and The Foo Fighters, however none are likely to appear as headliners across the weekend. The Rolling Stones seem a promising prospect, with Ronnie Wood stating earlier this month that ‘He’d love to do it’. Glastonbury is always welcoming to bands from the yesteryear, so seeing The Stones headlining wouldn’t surprise any fans of the festival. Take That are one band who have confirmed they will not be appearing, with Gary Barlow stating ‘I don’t think it’s possible’ due to the size of the production of their show. Here are some of other names rumoured to be appearing: Beyonce, Radiohead, Daft Punk, Paolo Nutini, The Strokes, Madonna, Christina Aguilera, Lady GaGa, The Libertines, Kings of Leon, Red Hot Chili Peppers, David Bowie, Arcade Fire, Rage Against the Machine, Led Zeppelin (again) and The White Stripes.

Kings of Leon pull lastnights gig after tour bus fire. The Kings of Leon have had to cancel lastnight’s O2 date after firefighters spent this mornng tackling the flames on board two of their tour buses. The US rockers were loading equipment just before lunch-time but had to stop to assess the damage done by the water used to put it out. Following the disruption the venue has issed the following statement: “With great regret tonight’s Kings of Leon’s concert at London’s 02 Arena has been postponed. The complications and disruption caused by this mornings fire have meant there is now insufficient time to rig the arena for tonight’s performance. Every opportunity has been made to allow the concert to go ahead as planned and it is a great disappointment to have to postpone the event. As per earlier reports from the London Fire Brigade, we are thankful to report that all crew are safe and no one was seriously injured. Kings of Leon send their sincerest apologies to all the fans who were planning & travelling to attend what was due to be a triumphant finale to their European tour tonight. The date will be rescheduled in 2011 at the first available opportunity.”  Lastnight was going to be the band’s last confirmed gig before March next year.
