Manic Street Preachers

Manic Street Preachers

More acts have today been added to the Isle of Wight Festival 2011 line up. The award winning Manic Street Preachers, critically acclaimed Public Image Ltd, Britpop giants Cast, the dynamic Hadouken!, the headmaster of British rock Nick Lowe and hotly tipped Brother, will raise the roof of the Big Top on Sunday 12th June. To get your hands on tickets check out www.isleofwightfestival.com. Taking place in June, the first major festival of the summer will see headline performances from three of the biggest bands in the world; Kings of Leon, Foo Fighters and closing the weekend Kasabian. Newly reformed Pulp will make their first UK festival appearance ahead of Foo Fighters on Saturday. With The Script, Plan B, Pixie Lott, James Walsh, Two Door Cinema Club and a guest performance from Jeff Beck already lined up for the main stage on Sunday, it’s certainly going to be a weekend to remember. Join us as we celebrate the 10th birthday in style.   With ten albums under their belts and a career spanning almost 25 years, the critically acclaimed Manic Street Preachers return with ‘Postcards From A Young Man’. Defiantly, unapologetically bold and forthright, the new album may be their best yet. Having topped the charts with both albums and singles including, ‘f You Tolerate This Your Children Will Be Next’, ‘Tsumani’, ‘The Everlasting’ and ‘You Stole the Sun from my Heart’, Manic Street Preachers are classed as one of the most interesting and inspirational bands of their generation. Headlining the Big Top on Sunday, the Welsh 3-piece are sure to rock the Festival.   After fronting the Sex Pistols, John Lydon formed Public Image Ltd in 1978. With their experimental sound fusing rock, dance, folk, ballet, pop and dub, Public Image Ltd are regarded as producing some of the most diverse music of the post-punk era; and are cited as one of the most innovative and influential bands in music history, making them a perfect fit for this year’s eclectic Isle of Wight Festival. After announcing their reformation earlier this year, 15 years on from the release of their million-selling debut ‘All Change’, Britpop giants Cast are back and ready to pull out all the stops in the Big Top. Following a massive UK tour, the band will be returning to the studio to record a new album, set for release in early 2011. Hadouken! rightfully earned a reputation as a live act not to be missed, and their latest run of shows look set to exceed all expectations. Their second album, ‘For The Masses’, reached the top 20 earlier in 2010 and Hadouken! are sure to keep the crowd moving in the Big Top with their experimental, genre-hopping sound. Northern Ireland’s Two Door Cinema Club will be will be making their first appearance at the Isle of Wight Festival on the main stage on Sunday. The music-mad trio and their debut album ‘ ‘Tourist History’ – fizzes with invention and sparkling tunes. It’s undeniably pop, and draws on electronica / electro and rock ‘ an ideal way to start a Sunday! The Isle of Wight Festival takes place 10th – 12th June at Seaclose Park, Newport, Isle of Wight

Maps announces details of new album

maps_-_james_chapmanMaps – aka James Chapman – has announced details of the release of a new album, Turning The Mind, released on Mute on 28th September 2009.  Turning The Mind, recorded with Tim Holmes (Death in Vegas) at the Contino Rooms in London, is Maps’ second album and follows the Barclaycard Mercury Prize shortlisted debut We Can Create (2007).  Talking about the album, James Chapman explains, ‘Turning The Mind is essentially an album which explores themes related to the human mind and the way certain stimuli, particularly chemical, can affect the mind in different ways.  A recurring theme throughout the album is that of the ‘journey of extremes’. An example of this could be from ‘depression’ to ‘euphoria’ (or ‘abyss’ to ‘bliss’, if you like). The title comes from the cognitive therapy practice of ‘Mindfulness’ which I Continue reading →

Pendulum live DVD

pendulum2One of the defining highlights of last summer’s festival circuit, Pendulum completed 2008 with a sold-out tour that saw them play to a combined audience of over 50,000 people. Now Pendulum can confirm the June 15th release of their ‘Live At Brixton Academy’ DVD that offers an irresistible monument for fans eager to relive the glorious chaos of the Pendulum live experience.  Recorded at Brixton Academy on December 4th and 5th 2008, the DVD highlights a full live set directed by Paul Caslin. Caslin was recently nominated for a Grammy in the Long Form Music Video category for his work on Rihanna’s ‘Good Girl Gone Bad’ DVD release. An added feature in the shape of an eighty minute audio CD of the Brixton gigs makes for an essential purchase for Pendulum’s devoted and ever growing fan base.  ‘Live At Brixton Academy’ features scintillating performances of Pendulum’s biggest hits and killer tracks to date including ‘Showdown’, ‘Propane Nightmares’, ‘Granite’, ‘Slam’ and ‘Another Planet’. The DVD also features Pendulum’s explosive interpretation of The Prodigy’s 1994 cult hit ‘Voodoo People’ and their incendiary take on the Metallica classic ‘Master of Puppets’.  Aside from the standard DVD / CD release, ‘Live At Brixton Academy’ will be also be available as a single DVD / deluxe double CD package that will be sold exclusively through www.pendulum.com as well as an iTunes exclusive format. Further details of both the deluxe version and the iTunes format of ‘Live At Brixton’ will be announced imminently. In the UK, Pendulum’s ‘In Silico’ album debuted at #2 in the album charts, has since reached double Gold status and is fast approaching Platinum. Their single ‘Propane Nightmares’ hit the Top 10 and was nominated for a Kerrang! Award for Best Single. Backed by a number of the summer’s most memorable festival appearances, including Creamfields, Download, Reading / Leeds and T in the Park, Pendulum have become a vital live act – aptly demonstrated by how their gigs have continually moved onto bigger venues on each successive tour. Continuing support from Radio 1 included a special Pendulum documentary that ran over Christmas. Pendulum are also repeating their phenomenal success on the other side of the Atlantic. Appearances on Carson Daly and Jimmy Kimmel relived the growing demand for their live shows created by the contagious reaction to their headline tours and a set at last year’s Coachella. They were also the hot name at this year’s Miami’s Ultra Music Festival where they headlined alongside The Prodigy and Bloc Party. Now Pendulum are set to be the band of the summer. Having proven to be too big for the tents at last summer’s festivals as huge audiences flocked to catch them in action, Pendulum have been elevated to the main stage for this year’s dates at Download (where they’re due to play ahead of Marilyn Manson), V, T In The Park, Isle of Wight and Oxegen. Growing demand for the band has been rewarded with the confirmation that they will headline their first major UK festival at Global Gathering in July.

Paolo Nutini 12-date UK tour

paolo-nutiniIn much the same way that José González is from Sweden and not Spain, Paolo Nutini is not a smooth Italian pop star, but a soul-influenced adult alternative singer and songwriter from the exceedingly not continental town of Paisley, Scotland. Raised in a music-loving family, with influences ranging from folk to opera to the jazz and R&B favorites of his father, and discovering homegrown folkies like John Martyn in his teens, Nutini left school in his mid-teens to focus on developing his own musical chops. Moving from Paisley to London at age 16, he garnered enough attention in local showcase clubs to be signed to the British arm of Atlantic Records just after he turned 18. Working with Coldplay and Badly Drawn Boy producer Ken Nelson, Nutini was the recipient of an impressive amount of label buzz even before his first single, “Last Request,” was released in the early summer of 2006. Nutini appeared at special Atlantic Records showcases at Carnegie Hall and the Montreaux Jazz Festival, as well as showcase sets opening for the Rolling Stones and Paul Weller. Nutini’s debut album, These Streets, was released in July 2006 in the U.K. (it wasn’t until January of the following year that it made it into the U.S.) alongside its second single, “Jenny Don’t Be Hasty.”

Paolo Nutini returns with a 12-date UK tour this May to coincide with the release of his impressive new album ‘Sunny Side Up’ (June 1st), written by Paolo Nutini and produced by Ethan Johns (Kings Of Leon, Ryan Adams) and Paolo.

Preceding this is the release of the first single from the album ‘Candy’.
