Lady Gaga’s Irish Flag Stunt In Belfast Leaves Fans Unimpressed. Somebody should tell Lady Gaga that Northern Ireland is separate from Ireland. The eccentric singer has dismayed her “little monsters” in Northern Ireland when she pulled out the Republic of Ireland’s green, white and orange flag during a show in Belfast.
An estimated 10,000 fans went to see the Grammy Award winner’s “Monster Ball Tour” stop at the Odyssey Arena in Belfast Saturday night. But instead of having a good time, some fans felt uneasy during the show. The 24-year-old singer pulled out the Irish Tricolor, the Republic of Ireland’s green, white and orange flag. The act was considered inappropriate because Northern Ireland is a separate country from the Republic of Ireland. Northern Ireland uses the Union Flag, which represents the United Kingdom. An unnamed concertgoer told the Belfast Telegraph, “It was about two-thirds of the way through the show when she came out on stage with the Irish Tricolor. A lot of people were not impressed and there was a bit of unease in the crowd.” “Some people were making comments and others challenging them. It didn’t spill over but I certainly think the atmosphere suffered after that as a result.” Former Lord Mayor of Belfast, UUP councilor Jim Rodgers, also condemned Gaga’s display of the flag, telling the paper, “The Odyssey is a very well-run venue and I don’t think the management will be very happy about this. I think at such events it is wrong for flags of any kind to be displayed.” “You tend to find people at such shows from both religions and those with none, and this won’t go down well at all.”

A flirty outing at a bowling alley followed by lunch with a handsome ex who happens to play a werewolf: Is Taylor Swift’s social life heating up? On Tuesday, the Grammy award winner was having a ball during a group date, which included best bud Selena Gomez, at a Studio City bowling alley. One big reason? She was getting close to Glee star Cory Monteith, who had “great chemistry” with the country singer, an eyewitness tells; “While everyone in the group seemed to get along great and had fun, Taylor received a lot of attention from Cory,” the source says. “Several times while they chatted, Cory pulled Taylor close to him and gave her a big, loving hug. Taylor seemed to love the attention and was beaming.” The two were first snapped together at Clive Davis’s pre-Grammys party in January, and it seems Monteith is still scoring points with Swift, 20. “Cory definitely seems to be Taylor’s type – tall, dark and handsome,” the source says. Swift’s lunch date on Wednesday – former flame and Twilight hunk Taylor Lautner – certainly fits that description. Joined by Swift’s mom, the exes grabbed lunch at The Farm in Beverly Hills on Thursday. “The two looked very excited to see each other and seemed to have a lot to catch up on,” tells our source.
Billboard did announce pop sensation Lady Gaga will be named its “Rising Star” at the 2009 Billboard Women In Music event, taking place on Oct. 2nd in New York City. The Billboard Rising Star Award rewards artists that have achieved a level of success and proven to have vast potential in the early stages of their career. Lady Gaga is the undisputed break-out star of the year for many reasons, including the success of her debut album, “The Fame” (Streamline Records), which has spawned four Billboard Hot 100 hit singles like “Just Dance” and “Poker Face,” both which reached No. 1 on the tally. “Just Dance” and “Poker Face” are also the Nos. 2 and 8 best-selling digital songs of all time, with 4.6 million and 4 million downloads, respectively. Gaga recently became the third artist in the history of the Mainstream Top 40 Airplay chart to have three No. 1 singles from a debut album. “The Fame” is also the best-selling album from a debut artist for 2009, with 1,441,000 copies sold in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan. In addition to writing all the tracks on her album, Lady Gaga has previously written for Britney Spears, the Pussycat Dolls, and New Kids on the Block. “Lady Gaga is one of those rare examples of a truly unique artist with mass appeal,” says Bill Werde, Editorial Director of Billboard. “She has established herself as one of today’s top songwriters, and the whole world is waiting to see what her next outrageous but brilliant move or style will be. It is that ongoing anticipation, combined with her success that makes her a rising star.” The Billboard Women in Music Event celebrates the most powerful and talented women in the music business, and is held in conjunction with the much-anticipated publication of Billboard’s Women In Music Power Players List – recognizing the top female music executives who are leading the industry with their artistic and business vision. Billboard will also honor Grammy Award-winning artist and pop culture icon Beyoncé with the coveted Billboard Woman of The Year Award at the event.
