Maximo Park's Paul Smith announces UK tour and debut single

Maximo Park’s Paul Smith announces UK tour and debut single. Paul Smith of Maximo Park will release ‘Our Lady of Lourdes’ on 1st November, the first single from his debut solo album ‘Margins’. The single will be released on 7′ vinyl (with b-side ‘Loop for Becca’) and download (with a version of ‘A Little Lost’ by Arthur Russell). Written and recorded in less than 24 hours, Our Lady of Lourdes has a propulsive beat, lush echoing guitars and dream-like melodies. ‘The song is like a short story describing a sign language conversation. It also touches on how religion provides comfort to those who need it’, explains Smith of the mysterious lyrics. It’s one of the more electric songs on a record that also finds Smith exploring his love of acoustic and experimental sounds. Margins is released on 11th October on Billingham Records, run by Smith, the label on which Maximo Park’s first ever red vinyl was released. The album is a collection of personal and intimate self-penned songs recorded with friend and co-producer Andy Hodson (The Matinee Orchestra/Warm Digits) at Hodson’s home in Newcastle over the past four years. Field Music’s David Brewis plays bass on the record. Maximo Park, together with Smith, are currently writing new material. Smith, accompanied by a band, will take to the road in November. He says ”ve been waiting to play these songs live for a while now so that should ensure an excitable performance although the songs will require a different execution to those of Maximo Park; less frenetic movement but no less emotion or commitment.’

Jedward sign to Sony and release debut single. X Factor phenomenon and national treasures Jedward have today signed with Sony Music and will release their debut single later this month. Finally bowing to public demand Jedward’s first single will be Under Pressure (Ice Ice Baby), featuring 90s icon Vanilla Ice.  The duo, who caused a national sensation with their gravity defying quiffs and energetic performances on last year’s X Factor exclusively performed the single, along with Vanilla Ice, at The National Television Awards on 20th January.  The single will be available to download from Sunday January 31st with a CD release in shops on Monday February 15th.  ‘Ice Ice Baby’, which samples the bassline of the Queen/Bowie classic ‘Under Pressure,’ was originally written by Vanilla Ice and DJ Earthquake; hitting No.1 across the world. The success of the single led Ice’s album ‘To the Extreme’ to sell over 15 million copies, making it one of the most successful selling rap records of all time.  Jedward’s version of the track has been produced by Nigel Wright, famed for his work with Take That, Boyzone and his long association with Andrew Lloyd Webber, as well as his role as musical director of The X Factor since 2004.  John and Edward said of the single: ‘A year ago we were training for cross country competitions and now like our idols we are living our dream. We really can’t believe that we have a single out and are performing with Vanilla Ice. We’re dedicating this single to all our fans who have been so supportive to us throughout The X Factor.’    Louis Walsh said: ‘Jedward really captured the public’s imagination whilst on The X Factor and love them or hate them you can’t deny that they were the talking point of the series. As Under Pressure was the track that really catapulted the boys to fame it seemed only fitting to release the song as their first single.’  Jedward will be appearing on The X Factor 2010 Live Tour which kicks off in Liverpool on February 15th.  Jedward are managed by Louis Walsh and Ashley Tabor, Founder and Group CEO of Global.

Fortune release debut single ‘Highway’

Fortune release debut single ‘Highway’November 9th 2009 marks the release of ‘Highway’, the debut single by hot new Parisian four-piece Fortune. The band are set to make a serious mark on the remainder of ’09 before scaling great heights in 2010.  ‘Highway’ is a bouncy, loose limbed piece of uplifting-boogie-meets-disco-meets-blue-eyed-soul-meets-perfect-electro-indie-pop! The track climaxes with glistening, dappled ornamentation reminiscent of seminal cuts ‘Stars’ by Mr Fingers and Carl Craig’s ‘Sparkle’. Fortune started life in April 2007 as Lionel Perres’ solo project. Lionel asked Pierre Lucas and Hervé Loos to accompany him on stage to make a bigger Continue reading →

You Animals release debut single ‘Halfway To Heartbreak’

you-animals-debut-singleYou Animals- Debut Single, ‘Halfway To Heartbreak’, 13th July 2009 on Fear and Records. Emerging from the questionable scene of rural Derbyshire, England, You Animals mash guitars into keyboards and hit some drums along with that to create massive pop anthems that people seem to like dancing to.  Six boys and girls have mastered the art of ‘song’ after meeting at Noisy Pop Music School and releasing their debut single, ‘Halfway to Heartbreak’ on July 13th through Fear & Records (Sky Larkin, I Was A Cub Scout, Emmy The Great). Having braved the locals on a daily basis to reach their practice room and spent some time in isolation working on honing their inch perfect leftfield pop, You Animals are now set to break out into the public gaze proper following tours with some of Britain’s biggest acts, hoping to win the hearts of the public.  Some people say they mirror early Idlewild, Ash or The Get Up Kids. You Animals say they sound like You Animals.  Limited Edition hand painted, signed and numbered 7′ single and download available from 13th July 2009
