The ‘Pass Out’ hitmaker is a huge fan of the ‘Promise This’ singer and keen to team up on record after meeting the 27-year-old beauty at the BRIT Awards earlier this month.
He told radio station Capital Yorkshire FM: “I wouldn’t rule out a collaboration with Cheryl on my next album. I gave her a quick kiss backstage – it’s like, ‘Man, I love you.’ ”
As well as Cheryl, Tinie – who won Best British Single and Best British Breakthrough at the BRITs – is keen to write a track with ‘Rolling In The Deep’ singer Adele, although he admits it’s unlikely to happen soon.
He said: “I would love to collaborate with her, it would be absolutely incredible, but it’s all about doing it on the right record.
“She’s just launched a new album she’s doing a new campaign and her album sounds a very certain way. I can’t see her coming away from that any time soon, but given the opportunity I would love to make that happen.”
On his debut album, ‘Disc-Overy’, Tinie had guest stars including female singers Ellie Goulding and Kelly Rowland.
The British singer ‘ who shot to fame as a member of Take That, who he joined when he was just 15 years old ‘ has given his permission for his solo material to be used in a new show being planned for the London stage and bosses have already started auditioning for two ‘Robbies’. A source told The Sun newspaper: ‘Robbie is bang up for the musical and thinks it will be a fun production. ‘He loves West End shows and is honoured they will be doing one about his life.’ A musical based on the life and career of the ‘Angels’ singer is sure to be filled with drama, from his rise to fame with Take That, to his dramatic departure in 1995, leading him to forge a successful solo career and eventually be honoured with more BRIT Awards than any other artist. The 36-year-old pop star has also been in rehab several times to be treated for alcohol and drug addictions but has credited his marriage to actress Ayda Field last summer with providing some stability in his life. He said recently: “Married life is a bit wonderful to be honest, yeah, it really is. Stability and happiness, I’m getting used to it but, you know, it was bound to happen at some point. “Life feels different, there’s like 15 per cent of rubbish that you’re carrying round with you, well me anyway, that’s just disappeared. It’s great being part of a team.” In 2007, a musical based on the songs of Take That toured the UK, before enjoying a London residency the following year.
Plan B hates Christmas music. The musician ‘ whose real name is Ben Drew ‘ can understand why festive songs are popular but wishes people put more effort into writing them. He said: ‘ f***ing hate Christmas songs. I just think they’re always so badly written. ”m not being a scrooge, I can just about tolerate them this time of year ‘ it just wouldn’t be Christmas without Christmas songs.’ Not only is he not a fan of Christmas pop music, the ‘She Said’ hitmaker doesn’t particularly enjoy traditional carols wither. He added: ‘f any f***ing carol singers come to my door, I would definitely throw snowballs at them.’ The ‘She Said’ hitmaker recently admitted he is “really stressed” at having to juggle recording his new album ‘The Ballad Of Belmarsh’ – which he says is 70 per cent complete ‘ and preparing to attempt to crack America and Australia next year. He said: “I’m so tired and I’m really getting stressed out. On January 10 I’m off to Australia and America for a month, then I’m on the arena tour back here and performing at the BRIT Awards. “If it doesn’t take off in America I come back here to finish my film.”
Lily Allen And Courtney Love Clash At NME Awards. Reports are claiming that on Wednesday night at the NME Awards in London singers Lily Allen and Courtney Love came to blows in a public screaming match that ended in them being pulled apart. Witnesses to the catfight say the chat began amicably but soon became “nasty and aggressive.” Onlookers have also said that they heard Love calling Allen “a little girl” and that the British singer was then ushered out in tears. The argument continued over Love’s twitter page as she said: “I don’t know one human being that likes this person. I just don’t get it. She’s on a diet of Haterade and cat hiss and self loathing.” Allen took to her micro-blogging page to tweet her side of the story: “just clearing a couple of things up. Courtney Love and I did NOT have a bust up at the NME’S. There was an exchange of words, yes. She’s upset because she has got it into her head that I put a lock on some dresses for the Brit awards. She’s made no secret of this and, when I saw her at the NME’S she tried to talk to me and I told her to shut up stop spreading stupid rumors about me and that’s pretty much it. I would never fight with her, as a rule I don’t pick on crazy old ladies.”
Liam Gallagher outraged the BRIT Awards lastnight (16.02.10), throwing his trophy in the crowd and snubbing his brother. The former Oasis singer appeared to collect the award for BRITS Album of 30 Years, a publicly voted accolade for the best album since the event started. Liam appeared onstage briefly to collect the trophy, and thanked the band’s line up – apart from his brother Noel, the band’s main songwriter and second vocalist. Referring to one of the group’s hits, Liam said: “I’d like to thank Bonehead, Guigsy, Alan White…. the best bands in the f**king world live forever.” He then threw his microphone and the award into the audience and walked offstage. Oasis split last year after a fallout between the volatile Gallagher brothers, and while Noel is recording a new solo album, Liam has formed a new band with the rest of the group’s members. Backstage at the event, he said: “I don’t know if we deserved it because there has been loads of great albums over the last 30 years. “But if they’re gonna give it to us then I’ll play the game and turn up and get it. “Now can we go and take loads of Class A drugs?” The missing microphone caused panic among the award organisers, and while the show was at an advert break, one of the stage team pleaded for its safe return. He announced: “We need this mic back. Please, if you have the mic will you return it, as one of our artists will not be able to perform without it.” The microphone thrown by Liam was given back and the show went on. Other performances at the event included rock band Kasabian, who performed their single ‘Fire’ on a stage which was partially engulfed in flames. They later won the award for British Group. Cheryl Cole – who is currently undergoing troubles in her marriage to footballer Ashley Cole, after he was caught sending lewd messages to other women – also performed her single ‘Fight For This Love’ singing through what appeared to be gritted teeth as she did a dance routine reminiscent of Michael Jackson
Muse, U2 and Stevie Wonder To Headline Glastonbury Festival. Muse, U2 and Stevie Wonder will headline this year’s Glastonbury. Muse will play the legendary pyramid stage on Saturday, June 26th with Motown star Stevie Wonder closing the event the following night. U2 had already been announced to open the festival on the Friday.
The Somerset located festival will celebrate its 40th anniversary this year with 175,000 people attending the event that has now had its license to continue until 2016. Muse headlined the event in 2004 and described it as “very special.” Lead singer Matt Bellamy told BBC news, “When you go out to the countryside and look at some cows and breathe in some fresh air and watch some good music, I think everyone connects with something which has been missing from city life.” Glastonbury tickets have now sold out, but Muse will also be playing stadium shows in London and Manchester. The rock act is also nominated for best group at the Brit Awards, however Bellamy won’t be attending due to “personal reasons.” Other acts on the line up are Dizzee Rascal, Corinne Bailey Rae, Andy Williams and Jack Johnson. Also the organizers have promised a surprise big name performance to help celebrate the festival’s 40th anniversary
Scouting For Girls release new single This Ain’t A Love Song on March 29. It precedes the release of sophomore album Everybody Wants To Be On TV on April 12.
In 2008 Scouting For Girls became the biggest selling new British band of the year. Having toiled for ten years unsigned, the boys sold over 900,000 records of their eponymous number 1 debut album, and were nominated for three Brit Awards (British Breakthrough Act, British Single and British Live Act) to become the UK’s most successful new pop band. Fronted by exuberant showman Roy Stride, Scouting For Girls quickly became renowned for their contagious piano-led pop songs (She’s So Lovely, Heartbeat, It’s Not About You, Elvis Ain’t Dead), that connected with a huge audience and reaped multiple sell-out tours. Those live shows grew as Scouting For Girls mania gripped, buoyed on by huge radio support, and venues were upsized across the UK country and sold out just as quickly. By the end of 2008, they had performed to hundreds of thousands of fans, and outsold bands twice their size in the live arena. The initial recordings of their forthcoming second album Everybody Wants To Be On TV were ruthlessly scrapped by the band after the Brit Awards in 2008, when they decided it needed re-writing and re-shaping. Whole tracks were dropped in Roy Stride’s mission for a collection of perfect pop songs. The resulting album, produced by Andy Green at Helioscentric Studios in East Sussex, is unshakably bold and confident, a genuine step up in sound that loses none of the band’s early charm but builds and expands upon it as infectiously as only they know how to be. This Ain’t A Love Song is a telling introduction to the new record. It is a hugely powerful, soaring song and a strong example of Scouting For Girls’ ambitious new sound, sculpted by Roy’s unflagging confidence and songwriting prowess. It is a welcome return by this everyday trio, writing a bright new chapter of British pop for 2010.
This year’s BRIT Awards ceremony will feature a brand new category – the best school band in the country. The BRIT Class Act will form part of the 30th anniversary event next month, aiming to find the UK’s new music stars.
The competition is open to school students up to 19 years old around the country, playing any genre of music with the best ‘Class Act’ winning a coveted BRIT Award.
The BRIT Class Act website at www.britclassact.co.uk will advise and help pupils to create their best track for the competition. Established bands will give tips and industry specialists will produce tool kits to give expert guidance to musicians as well as pupils who want to be involved in the process.
The BRIT Awards takes place on February 16.
Robbie Williams, Lady Gaga and Kasabian to perform at BRITs. ’Angels’ singer Robbie – who has previously spoken of how his severe stage fright has halted his live performances – will perform a short set to commemorate recieiving a lifetime achievement award, with rumours rife that he will reunite with his former Take That bandmates for the second time since launching a solo career in 1996. A source told the Daily Mirror newspaper: ‘Take That could reunite with Robbie to perform his second track. It’s the band’s 20th anniversary year and they and they are in talks about doing something spectacular.’ Robbie previously joined Take That and a host of other stars onstage for a rendition of Beatles song ‘Hey Jude’ at a concert in aid of charity Children in Need in November last year. Meanwhile, rap superstar Jay-Z is rumoured to be making an appearance at the show, and will possibly perform with ‘Viva La Vida’ hitmakers Coldplay, fronted by Chris Martin. A source said: ‘As well as bringing Alicia Keys on stage to do a rendition of their hit ‘Empire State of Mind’, he’s thinking of getting Coldplay involved too. Chris Martin and Jay have been pals for years.’ Meanwhile, Lady Gaga will not be able to realise her plan of performing alongside reality TV sensation Susan Boyle at the awards show – as the latter has reportedly been snubbed from nominations because she is ‘not cool’ enough. Susan– who rose to fame after appearing on ‘Britain’s Got Talent’, one of media mogul Simon Cowell’s TV shows – is said to have missed out on a nod in any category, despite being the biggest selling female artist of 2009 in the UK. A source said: ‘She’s not even shortlisted for Best Female, even though that’s usually the weakest category. ‘And it’s not just an attack on Susan. It also shows how Simon Cowell is regarded by many in the record business.’ However, one collaboration which will definitely take place at the awards will be between Dizzee Rascal and Florence and the Machine in a specially conceived track called ‘You Got The Dirtee Love’, a mash up of their tracks ‘You Got The Love’ and ‘Dirtee Cash’. ‘Beat Again’ hitmakers JLS have also been confirmed to sing at the ceremony, which takes place at London’s Earls Court on 16 February. The nominations for the BRIT Awards will be announced tonight (18.01.10).
By distilling the sounds of Franz Ferdinand, the Clash, the Strokes, and the Libertines into a hybrid of swaggering indie rock and danceable neo-punk, the Arctic Monkeys became one of the U.K.’s biggest bands of the new millennium. Alex Turner and Jamie Cook jumpstarted their careers in 2001 after receiving guitars for Christmas; two years later, they began performing shows around their native Sheffield with drummer Matt Helders and bassist Andy Nicholson. A series of demo recordings followed, and the Arctic Monkeys’ audience swelled as fans circulated those recordings via the Internet. The teenaged musicians soon found themselves at the center of a growing media circus, with such outlets as BBC Radio examining the band’s music and mounting hype.
By distributing their homemade material on the Internet, the Arctic Monkeys were able to build a rabid fanbase without the help of a record label, effectively circumventing the usual road to superstardom. They continued to buck tradition by signing with Domino Records in 2005, eschewing a major label’s help for Domino’s D.I.Y. mentality and hip roster (which also included Franz Ferdinand, a touchstone for the band’s sound). The smart moves paid off, as the Arctic Monkeys’ first two singles — “I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor” and “When the Sun Goes Down” — topped the U.K. charts. Critical reception was similarly favorable, but few could have predicted the whirlwind success of the band’s debut album, which ousted Oasis’ Definitely Maybe as the fastest-selling debut in British history (a record that was lost one year later to Leona Lewis’ Spirit). Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not sold 363,735 copies during its first week alone, transforming the Arctic Monkeys from underground stars into mainstream figures.
The Arctic Monkeys’ debut sold approximately 300,000 copies in America — enough to warrant more media coverage, but notably less than the album’s British sales during its first week alone. Nevertheless, the band’s success continued as they released a spring EP, Who the F*k Are Arctic Monkeys, and prepared for a stateside tour. Temporary bassist Nick O’Malley was brought aboard for the band’s American shows, while a fatigued Nicholson stayed at home. Nicholson then announced his official departure when the band returned home in June 2006, and O’Malley remained with the Arctic Monkeys as a permanent member. That Fall, the musicians received the 2006 Mercury Prize and donated the accompanying money to an undisclosed charity. Additional accolades included “Best British Breakthrough Act” at the Brit Awards and “Best New Band and Best British Band” at the NME Awards. NME also made a bold assertion by deeming the band’s debut one of the Top Five British albums ever released.
Released in April 2007, Favourite Worst Nightmare updated the the Arctic Monkeys’ sound with louder instruments and faster tempos. The bandmates had recorded the sophomore album quickly, wishing to return to the road as soon as possible, and the speedy turnaround between records only helped solidify the band’s popularity at home. Favourite Worst Nightmare sold 85,000 copies during its first day of release, while all 12 tracks entered the Top 200 of the U.K. Singles Charts. As Alex Turner briefly turned his attention to a side project, the Last Shadow Puppets, the Arctic Monkeys’ second album earned another Mercury Prize nomination and took home two titles at the 2008 Brit Awards.
