New Kids On The Block, Backstreet Boys Confirm Joint Tour, AMAs Performance. Fans of both multi-platinum boy bands New Kids on the Block and Backstreet Boys will be able to see all nine guys on one stage during the officially confirmed NKOTBSB Tour and during a special performance at the American Music Awards this month. Announced today on Ryan Seacrest’s radio show and confirmed by Live Nation, the NKOTBSB tour will visit Toronto, New York, New Jersey, Chicago, and Los Angeles, with more cities and dates to be announced soon. The first date of the NKOTOBSB tour, at Toronto’s Air Canada Center, will take place June 9th, with tickets for the shows to go on sale beginning November 19th. Rumors of a joint Backstreet Boys and New Kids on the Block tour began when they took the stage together at NKOTB’s sold-out Radio City Music Hall show. “It started when we got together at Radio City Music Hall a few months back. We wanted to do something big for the crowd in NY. So we got the Backstreet Boys to come down to Radio City and we put together a performance of ‘I Want It That Way’ in about 5 minutes. It was electric,” the New Kids said on Ryan Seacrest’s show. “Something happened when they came out on stage. The crowd went to a place that we never heard it go to before,” they added. “We started talking, people started talking, and it seemed right. It’s really just going to be an amazing night of pop music and pop culture.” “We are blessed. This is a wonderful opportunity for fans of all— not only New Kids fans, or Backstreet fans, but fans of music,” added the Backstreet Boys. “It’s not about who opens or who closes. It’s a night of continuous music, hit after hit. We are going to give people a show to remember.” But fans won’t have to wait until Summer 2011 to see the New Kids on the Block and Backstreet Boys on one stage. Both bands have been announced to perform together at the “2010 American Music Awards,” airing live Sunday, November 21st. It’ll be the first time they’ve performed together for a televised audience. “New Kids on the Block and Backstreet Boys on one stage is something special. Moments like these are what the AMAs are all about,” said AMA producer Larry Klein.

While it’s been years since Backstreet Boys were able to sell over 10 million copies of a disc stateside (but really, who has?), the one-time boy band phenom are leaving their home of over 15 years. The boys have slipped from Jive Records. Jive Records signed the boys back in March of 1994, where they went on to release their first album overseas before finally hitting big in the U.S. in 1997. They then went on to sell over 130 million records worldwide on the label, which is currently the home to acts such as Britney Spears and Kris Allen. Their last album, the under-rated “This Is Us,” saw the boys collaborating with Max Martin, responsible for their biggest hit “I Want It That Way,” as well as new producers like RedOne and Ryan Tedder. The album failed to sell over a million copies. The split, according to the Boys, is amicable. “This is the best thing, at the best time that could have ever happened for us”, said member Brian Littrell. “We are confident in the future of our band, and are looking forward to the new things to come. 2011 is going to be a great year for us!” The boys are currently on tour in support of “This Is Us.” They recently kicked off the tour, hitting Miami on May 29th, and are scheduled to continue through the summer, wrapping up in Cleveland on August 27th.
Th 5/6: Samuel L. Jackson, Kara DioGuardi and Jason Derulo on THE TONIGHT SHOW WITH JAY LENO, NBC. Kara DioGuardi is a born and raised New Yorker, but she is of Albanian and Italian descent. DioGuardi attended Duke University and completed a degree in political science. However, she decided on a career path far away from her degree – she applied for a job on the marketing and publishing departments of Billboard Magazine. During her desk job at Billboard, Kara started writing her own songs. By 1995, DioGuardi successfully secured a record deal with MCA. However, Kara DioGuardi’s lyrical career only began when her friend Paula Abdul gave Kylie Minogue a copy of Kara’s album. Minogue used the song “Spinning Around” on her album and became a top-charting single worldwide. Since then, Kara DioGuardi’s lyrics are unstoppable. DioGuardi is an outstanding songwriter – a fact proven by artists that made her songs reach the top of the charts repeatedly. Such artists include big American names like Faith Hill, Pink, Santana, Backstreet Boys, Pussycat Dolls, Jessica Simpson, Gwen Stefani, Avril Lavigne, Hilary Duff and Britney Spears, among others. Kara DioGuardi has also helped international artists like Kylie Minogue, Enrique Iglesias, Ricky Martin, Belinda, Thalia, Anastacia and Diego. American Idol stars, including Katharine McPhee, Kelly Clarkson, Taylor Hicks, Carrie Underwood, Bo Bice, Clay Aiken and David Archuleta have also sought the help of Kara DioGuardi. From all the artists Kara has helped, her songs have sold over 100 million copies altogether. From 1995 to 2008, Kara DioGuardi has successfully written over 40 international-charting singles, helping 45 albums reach the Top 10 of the Billboard 200. In 2003, Kara won a BMI Cable Award for co-writing and performing the theme song “Somethin’ to Say” for “For The People” – a Lifetime TV series starring Cecilia Suarez, Debbi Morgan, Lea Thompson and A. Martinez. The Grammy-nominated songwriter has also won the 2007 SOCAN Award and the 2007 “BMI Pop Songwriter of the Year,” after having been given 10 BMI Pop Awards for the “most-performed song on the radio” for four consecutive years. One of Kara DioGuardi’s recent achievements is a nomination for the Latin Grammys for “Best Song” after co-writing Belinda’s single “Bella Tracion” with Ben Moody, Mitch Allan, Nacho Peregrin and Belinda. Aside from songwriting, Kara DioGuardi also co-owns the Arthouse Entertainment, a publishing company that helps record companies, artists, songwriters and other music entities that need compositions, artists, productions and other music-related services. She also works with the non-profit substance abuse service organization, Phoenix House, which helps educate teens in operating recording studio equipments.

BACKSTREET BOYS have said they have chart staying power. The US pop group have sold over 100 millions albums in their 12-year career and said their success is down to producing contemporary-sounding records. Speaking to Billboard, member Howie Dorough, said: “We always try to set the bar as high as possible. “We’ve always been a pop R&B group. We focus our songs around good melodies and group harmonies, and hopefully that will have a lot of staying power.” And he added that the group are still confident that they can appeal to new audiences. He said: “I think every artist who wants to be around for a long time and have staying power has to go through that transition. “Some records are going to be bigger than others. Spears was born December 2, 1981 , in Kentwood Louisiana. The daughter of Lynne, an elementary school teacher, and Jamie, a construction contractor, Spears auditioned for the Disney Channel’s Mickey Mouse Club at the age of 8.
Producers for the show decided she was too young, but one was impressed enough to help her find an agent in New York.
Accompanied by her mother and younger sister, Spears lived in Manhattan for the next several summers, studying at the Professional Performing Arts School.
In 1991, she landed a part as a demonic child in Ruthless, an off-Broadway production based on the 1956 horror film, The Bad Seed.
At age 11, Spears auditioned again, this time successfully, for the Mickey Mouse Club. For the 1993 and 1994 seasons, she lived in Orlando, Florida, where the show is filmed, in a dorm with the rest of the cast—including two future members of the group ‘N Sync and Keri Russell, future star of the WB’s Felicity.
After her run on the MMC, Spears attended high school at home in Louisiana for a year, before heading back to New York at age 15 to audition for executives at Jive Records.
She signed a development deal with Jive and over the next two years recorded her debut album with producers Eric Foster White, who had worked with Whitney Houston (one of Spears’ professed influences, with Madonna, Michael Jackson, and Mariah Carey), and Max Martin, who worked with fellow pop stars the Backstreet Boys.
Miley Cyrus is the world’s favourite teenage idol. The ‘Hannah Montana’ actress has topped an online poll about young celebrities, with almost a third of voters – 32 per cent – naming her the biggest rising star. However, only 10 per cent of participants believe the 16-year-old singer-and-actress is a good role model. Squeaky-clean band the Jonas Brothers finished second in the favourite idols poll with 27 per cent of votes, while former winner Britney Spears was demoted to third position. According to the survey, fans are frustrated by the ‘Womanizer’ singer’s turbulent personal life. The pop princess received less than a quarter of votes and only four per cent of voters believe the mother-of-two is a positive influence. Meanwhile, 19-year-old singer Taylor Swift – who starred alongside Miley in ‘Hannah Montana: The Movie’ – was named the celebrity with the most influence over adolescents. The online questionnaire by PopEater.com – which was completed by 57,000 members – also saw the Backstreet Boys named as the greatest teen idols of the 90s, while Kirk Cameron won the award for the 80s and David Cassidy was the most popular star from the 70s.
