Alicia Keys feels ‘more womanly’ since becoming a mother

Alicia Keys

The 30-year-old singer ‘ who has a nine-month-old son Egypt with husband Swizz Beatz ‘ has found parenthood has made her more content and “connected” with herself.

She said: “It’s about becoming more centred in myself. Having the baby has connected me to a deep, more womanly place.”
Alicia also described her marriage to Swizz ‘ whose real name is Kasseem Dean ‘ as “very equal”.

She said: “We have a very equal relationship. Equal is my favourite word.”

The ‘Empire State of Mind’ hitmaker is upset about the sexualisation of pop music, and was astonished at the sight she was greeted by at her goddaughter’s recent birthday party.

She explained: “There were little girls emulating the dance moves they’d seen on TV, like six-year-old strippers.

“I’m going to have to teach my son by example.”

Alicia Keys is to mark the 10-year anniversary of her ‘Songs in A Minor’ album with a special London concert. The ‘Empire State of Mind’ hitmaker is to celebrate a decade since the release of her debut LP by performing at the historic Royal Albert Hall on June 13. The intimate show, entitled ‘Piano & I: A One Night Only Event With Alicia Keys’, will see the singer perform tracks from the album, as well as some of her other classic hits, accompanied just by her piano.

She told BBC Radio 1′s Newsbeat: “It’s incredible that I’ve been able to make it 10 years and here we are celebrating that.

“London is so good to me. I want to show my gratitude.”

In addition to the concert, Alicia – who will also tell stories about her career during the show – is releasing deluxe and collectors’ editions of ‘Songs in A Minor’ on June 27.

The new reworking of the album will also feature 10 tracks penned by the singer at the time she was first writing the album.

She said: “I think back to a time when I barely thought an album would be able to come out just because there were so many trials and tribulations.

“When the record did finally come out and was able to be heard and people fell in love with it, it was a testament to doing great music and not allowing people’s negativity stop you from what you dream.”

And I think if you’ve been a fan of our band for a long time then you need these different feelings in your life, these different emotions to come through. And I know that because it’s what we need right now.’ Now fans who missed out on that intimate show can experience material from ‘Danger Days’ in the live setting for the first time with the confirmation of a major nationwide arena tour in February 2011. "Die" Digitally For Charity

Lady Gaga, Kim Kardashian And More To “Die” Digitally For Charity. Some of Facebook and Twitter’s most popular members are quitting the social network sites to raise money for charity. Lady Gaga, Kim Kardashian, Justin Timberlake, and Alicia Keys are joining Digital Life Sacrifice, a campaign to raise money for Keep a Child Alive. The celebrities have already filmed their “last tweet and testament” videos in preparation for their “death” from the digital world on World AIDS Day, Wednesday. The initiative, organized by Keys’ Keep a Child Alive charity, will see the stars quit their Facebook and Twitter accounts on Wednesday, and won’t log back in until $1 million has been raised. Jennifer Hudson, Usher, Ryan Seacrest, Elijah Wood, Serena Williams, and Keys’ husband, Swizz Beatz, are also joining the innovative campaign. Keep a Child Alive cares for the families, especially children, in Africa affected by the HIV/AIDS. President and co-founder of the charity, Leigh Blake, said, “We’re trying to sort of make the remark: Why do we care so much about the death of one celebrity as opposed to millions and millions of people dying in the place that we’re all from?” He added that Lady Gaga, who has more than 7 million followers on Twitter and almost 24 million Facebook fans, may even be able to raise the $1million “all by herself.

Lady Gaga Dominates MTV VMAs With 8 Wins.  It was Lady Gaga’s night at the MTV Video Music Awards Sunday. The award show’s most nominated artist for a single year in its history made history by winning 8 moon men, the most awards garnered by a female performer. The 24-year-old singer’s “Bad Romance” won 7 categories, including Video and Female Video of the Year, Pop Video, and Dance Video. Her “Telephone” won Collaboration with Beyonce Knowles. She thanked her “little monsters” for the voting. She gave a big “thank you” to all the gays as well. When she took the stage to receive her Video of the Year award from Cher no less, she fulfilled a promise by announcing the name of her new album. “I was so nervous for tonight that I would let my fans down. I promised that if I won tonight, I’d announce the name of my new record.” “It’s called ‘Born This Way,’” she was before she sang a few lines from a track. Eminem is the second biggest winner of the night. His “Not Afraid” won Male Video and Hip-Hop Video at the show. And while he was able to share the stage with Rihanna when they performed their chart-topping track “Love the Way You Lie,” he wasn’t around anymore to receive his trophies. It turned out he had a flight to catch as he was due to perform with Jay-Z in New York the following day. Meanwhile, Kanye West and Taylor Swift kept their feud alive after a year. They separately took the stage and performed personal songs that addressed last year’s row when West crashed Swift’s acceptance speech. Swift performed first with an unnamed son, taking an aim at the rapper with its lyrics that include: “Some things you can’t speak of, but tonight you live it all again” and “You have new Septembers. Everyone one of us has messed up, too.’ West confused audience with “Runaway.” It was not clear if he was self-deprecating or saluting other “douchebags” of the world. “You’ve been putting up with my s*** for way too long,” he sang. “Let’s have a toast for the scumbags. Let’s have a toast for the jerk****. Baby, I got a plan. Runaway fast as you can.”
