Dolly Parton worries talent show stars ‘blow out’ too soon.
The country music star has nothing against artists who get their big break by appearing on shows such as The X Factor or American Idol. However, she is concerned that their careers might not have the longevity of others musicians.
‘The way it used to be you started at the bottom and go up the ladder but I’m not sure that’s better than anything else. I always hope the best for them, I always worry about that. once they’ve done that big glow it kinda just dims and they might not get another chance, it’s almost like blowing out too soon. I think real talent and good people who keep their heads straight will do well,’ Dolly said.
The singer is happy for people grasping opportunities to achieve their dreams, which is why she won’t dismiss televised singing contests.
Dolly is astounded when she thinks about how the industry has changed since she started out in the ’60s.
‘It’s so totally different now, with all the high-tech stuff and everything’s online now… It’s completely different, it’s got its good sides and bad sides,’ she told a UK TV show.
Guillemots have never been ones to let the grass grow and sound their return this year with a leviathan task.
They’ve been in lockdown, squirreling away in the name of art for a labour of love which will last six months and which will produce a quartet of sparkling new albums, baked and served straight from the oven, no messing around.
Immersed in the solitary splendour of the Norwegian wilderness,
Fyfe Dangerfield, Magrao, Aristazabal Hawkes and Greig Stewart have taken up this self-imposed challenge with their trademark élan.
The proof is in the pudding ‘ first LP ‘Hello Land!’ ‘ an easy breezy, earthern ode to springtime featuring the Norwegian Flute Ensemble and produced by Jonas Raabe.
Experimental, orchestral, psych-tinged, balladeering tendrils wrap themselves around falsetto and sixties’ girl group melodies for a lush record which adds the first brushstroke to this forthcoming masterpiece.
As the band themselves say; ‘We hope it makes friends with your ears.’
Rihanna is reportedly still ‘obsessed’ with the idea that she’s meant to be with Chris Brown.
The two stars ended their relationship after Chris assaulted Rihanna in 2009. They were seen in the same nightclubs twice over the last few weeks and it is thought that they have grown close again.
It’s been claimed Rihanna engineered both meetings as she is still hung up on her ex.
‘Rihanna has always been obsessed with Chris,’ an insider told the British edition of Grazia. ‘She’s yet to have a proper relationship with anyone since they broke up. She just can’t let go of the idea that they’re meant to be together. It’s like he has some sort of hold over her.’
Chris is still thought to be dating Karrueche Tran, although he is also said to be considering reuniting with Rihanna. Getting over Rihanna fully is struggle for Chris.
‘Chris is in two minds over what to do,’ a source said. ‘He does have feelings for Karrueche but it’s almost like there is some sort of massive pull between him and Rihanna. They have a toxic bond that neither of them seems to be about to let go. He’s absolutely mesmerised every time he sees her.’
Katy Perry was ‘trying to keep her marriage alive.’
The singer is currently promoting her fly-on-the-wall documentary Part of Me 3D. It was produced from over 300 hours of film footage shot during her 2011 California Dreams world tour.
Katy’s 14-month marriage with Russell Brand broke down towards the end of her performances. Before the pair split Katy was unwilling to go more than two weeks without seeing Russell.
Striking a balance was important to the singer.
‘Being in love is a dream, but the reality is not like the movies,’ she revealed in the movie. ‘There”s a lot more compromise and sacrifice. I”m trying to keep my marriage alive.’
Later in December when Russell filed for a divorce a make-up free and upset Katy divulged to the camera her thoughts on the life-altering event.
‘The truth is I”m a romantic and I believed in the fairy tale. I did everything I could but it still failed,’ she shared. ‘The dream of being in love is a lot different than the reality of making it work. I”ve got a second chance at a brilliant life.’
Gwyneth Paltrow and her husband Chris Martin have bought a ‘spectacular’ new property in Los Angeles, it has been reported.
The couple are believed to have splashed out close to the $10,450,000 asking price for the six-bedroom mansion, which is situated on the west side of the city.
The beautiful house has been designed by famed architect Windsor Smith and is set in spacious grounds surrounded by Sycamore trees, boasting a guesthouse and stables.
‘Gwyneth Paltrow is in escrow on one of the most spectacular estates on the west side of L.A. and it”s costing her and hubby Chris Martin a pretty penny,’ TMZ reports. ‘The house – courtesy of famed architect Windsor Smith – was listed for $10,450,000. We”re told Gwyneth and Chris paid close to the asking price. The house has six bedrooms and eight baths, which means their two kids will probably each get their own rooms.’
The luxury white abode features a pale grey slate roof and a grand gated entrance. The inside is light and airy thanks to the many floor-to-ceiling windows and beautiful wooden floors.
Built in 2011, the property was originally listed at close to $12million but has recently been reduced.
Justin Bieber could rap by the time he was eight.
The 18-year-old singer is known as a pop star but is trying to make his sound more mature at the moment. He explained moving into hip-hop would be a natural step for him as it’s a genre he has loved for over a decade.
‘I grew up listening to different things. My dad loved Tupac, so he introduced me to Tupac when I was really young. I could spit a Tupac verse when I was like eight years old,’ he explained.
‘I think that guys are starting to like my music more. I think that older ladies are starting to like my music more.’
Justin recently moved into his own home, which he shares with a friend. He’s excited to have space to himself but assures his fans he hasn’t been going too wild.
‘I just got my own place. I’m not going crazy, I am running around naked in the house often. That’s what you have to do when you get your own place, you feel comfortable going to get some cereal butt naked,’ he laughed on radio programme The Angie Martinez Show.
Although Justin cooks occasionally, he never washes his own clothes as he ‘doesn’t have time’ for laundry.
The teenager also spoke about how he goes incognito while out and about. There are certain places he can go where people don’t bother him, although in others he has to take steps not to be bothered.
‘I never put on a disguise. One time I went to Venice Beach [in Los Angeles] and I wanted to skateboard and I put on a mask. There’s a bunch of people who are crazy there so I was just rolling in a masque on a beach and no one bothered me,’ he said.
Cheryl Cole’s career seems to be going from strength to strength and in October she will be headlining her first ever UK tour ‘A Million Lights’!
Her latest track ‘Call My Name’ written and produced by Calvin Harris is the fastest selling single of 2012 and has launched her back into the music spotlight.
Serving up a decent dose of pop, her third album ‘A Million Lights’ has an impressive list of producers and artists on it including Britney hitmaker Jim Beanz and friend and mentor will.i.am. If that wasn’t enough, Lana Del Rey penned her track ‘Ghetto Baby’ and Wretch 32 collaborated with her on my personal favourite ‘Screw You’.

Justin Bieber has joked that his new record reflects his new “sexy” state of mind.
The Canadian superstar is currently promoting his newest record Believe, which features the hit track Boyfriend. Justin – who is famed for his boyish charm – says his new music mirrors his evolution into maturity.
“You know, I’m 18,” he told ET Online when asked about his sultry new single. “I’m growing as an artist and my fans are growing with me. So I’m just making music that reflects that.
“I think this song is a sexy song. I’m pretty sexy right now,” he quipped, before adding: “No I don’t have those moments!”
Justin is hounded by hordes of female fans. The constant attention surrounding him has led to problems in the past – namely a paternity lawsuit filed against him by a then-20-year-old woman named Mariah Yeater. She alleged that the star fathered her baby boy, but later dropped the lawsuit.
Justin has included a song on the album called Maria.
“We changed her name so we can’t get sued,” he said sheepishly. “I felt like I just wanted to talk about it. I mean it was something that was a pretty significant thing to happen.”
Orlando Magic center Dwight Howard will undergo back surgery on Friday morning in Los Angeles to repair a herniated disk, effectively ending his season and eliminating him from participation in the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, Howard’s agent said on Thursday night.
“It hurts (emotionally),” Howard told ESPN the Magazine’s Chris Broussard. “That’s the first thing — it hurts. And then with people saying and thinking I’m quitting on my team. This is a real issue. I tried to play through it and it just made my back worse.”
Howard has been complaining of back problems since early March, but it wasn’t until Los Angeles-based spine surgeon Dr. Robert Watkins examined him last week that the herniated disk was discovered.
Howard received an epidural to alleviate the pain at that time, and the plan was that he’d rest and rehabilitate his back for 10-14 days before deciding if he could return to play or if further treatment might be necessary. But his back has worsened and both Watkins and the Magic’s medical staff determined surgery is necessary.
Howard told Broussard he is not worried about any long-term ramifications from the surgery.
“The doctor said it’s a one-inch incision,” Howard told Broussard. “He said I can start rehab right away and be back to full contact in four months. So I’m not really concerned. If anything, I’ll come back stronger.”
Dan Fegan, Howard’s agent, said he hopes this development debunks any thoughts that Howard’s back problem was not serious and that he was utilizing it as an excuse not to play.
Howard vehemently disputed a report that he called Magic owner Rich DeVos and said he would not play for coach Stan Van Gundy again. A report by WKMG in Orlando said Howard called DeVos during last Friday’s loss to the Atlanta Hawks.
“I was getting an epidural during the game,” he said. “I had no idea what was going on with the game until the third quarter. That’s when I woke up. I couldn’t have talked to him, because I was out of it.”
Howard also confirmed that a major reason he opted into the final year of his contract is because the Magic said they’d trade him if he didn’t, and he wasn’t prepared to give up on winning a title with the Magic this year. In fact, he still believes the Magic are capable of a title run without him.
“If the guys come together, we still have a chance,” he said. “I know what we have in that locker room. I’ve seen it in spurts this season. I’ve told them, ‘We don’t have to be the biggest or the strongest, we just have to believe.’”
Howard said he has been told following the surgery he can begin full contact in three to four months and that he should not have any lingering issues.
“That’s why I’m doing the surgery now, so I won’t have any problems with my back again,” Howard said.
The back issues have forced Howard to miss eight games this season, one more than he missed in his first seven seasons combined. His total of 621 games and 22,471 minutes is the most by a center in his first eight seasons in the modern-NBA era.
Dikembe Mutombo is next with 603 games and 22,138 minutes. For comparison, Shaquille O’Neal played 534 games and 20,148 minutes in his first eight seasons.
“Dwight has never laid down once in his entire career,” Fegan said. “It’s absurd that some publicly, and others privately, speculated that Dwight was laying down or quitting. In fact, he was working his hardest to play through an injury which now requires surgery.”
The Magic also have been playing without Hedo Turkoglu (facial fracture) since April 5. He’s averaging 10.7 points and is shooting 34.9 percent on 3-pointers.
With Howard and Turkoglu sidelined, Van Gundy has started Glen Davis at center with Jason Richardson and Ryan Anderson at forward. J.J. Redick and Jameer Nelson start in the backcourt.
USA Basketball chairman Jerry Colangelo said Thursday night he hadn’t been told of Howard’s plans, and it was too early to speculate on the Olympic team.
The final roster of 12 players and six alternates is due June 18, and the U.S. may have to consider increasing its pool of possible candidates with Howard out and fellow big man LaMarcus Aldridge iffy after right hip surgery.
“I understand exactly who’s involved,” Colangelo said. “The only thing I don’t know is the extent of Dwight Howard’s situation, and I really want to find out more about that. But we may have to consider, you know, invitations to a couple (other) players. That’s a possibility. We’ll talk about it.”
